Announcing... the FELINE Online Family Album!
Realizing that we can't ALWAYS get to the latest FELINE party to
exchange pictures, and realizing that we ARE a computer company...
what better way to see our furry friends than through the network?
For those who were at the Yangtze River party, those were my
digitized cat pics floating around... I brought them by accident,
really. You see, I was halfway to work when I realized that I had
forgotten my cat pictures at home. Then I remembered that when I
first got my PC scanner one of the first things I did was to digitize
pictures of me and Tamara and the "kids", and that I had some of them
online on my workstation. A little hunting through the network to
find a GIF-to-PostScript converter program, and voila! Instant cat
pictures!
The pictures are available in kvetch::/pub/pictures/feline (Yes, it's
an ULTRIX system). Right now I just have the three that I had last
night, plus a picture of my parents' cat (unfortunately now
deceased <snif!>)
Attached is the README file from that directory.
Viewing and printing programs are also available.
Now, if you'd like to have YOUR favorite cat picture(s) digitized
and made available for general viewing, I'll be more than happy
to do it for you. Send me email to make arrangements, or else you
can just send them straight to me at mailstop LTN1-2/H09. I'd
appreciate a brief description of each picture so that I can include
that information in the picture directory.
Following is the README file:
Welcome to the FELINE online family album!
Be aware that the family album lives on KVETCH::, which is a DECstation
5100 running ULTRIX. For you VMS folks out there, it means that filenames
are case-sensitive and that directory names contain slashes. Therefore,
to copy one of the picture files to a VMS machine, you would issue the
following command:
$ COPY KVETCH::"/pub/pictures/feline/picture.gif" PICTURE.GIF
For those of you on ULTRIX systems, you need to be running DECnet-ULTRIX,
and you need to issue a command as follows:
% dcp -i kvetch::/pub/pictures/feline/picture.gif picture.gif
Note that the -i flag is required when transferring binary files
(GIF files or executable programs), but should NOT be used when
transferring text files.
KVETCH is not on the coporate internet yet. When it is (hopefully
Real Soon Now), then anonymous ftp access will also be available.
This directory (kvetch::/pub/pictures/feline) contains digitized images
of our favorite furry friends. All images are in GIF (Graphics Interchange
Format) format. All picture files in this directory have an extension of
".gif". If you don't have software to view or print GIF images, I have some
available on this machine. Check out the directories:
kvetch::/pub/pictures/programs/vax-vms
kvetch::/pub/pictures/programs/vax-ultrix
kvetch::/pub/pictures/programs/mips-ultrix
Each directory contains a README file describing the available programs.
The file /pub/pictures/feline/picture_directory.txt contains a brief
description of each available picture file. I suggest you download
it first and select the pictures you want. It will be updated as new
pictures are added.
If you would like to have YOUR feline featured in the online photo
album, I'll be happy to digitize the pictures for you. I currently
work at LTN1; if you're local, we can make arrangements to get the
pictures to me. Otherwise, my mailstop is LTN1-2/H09.
