4477.0. "ABUSED KITTY NEEDS HOME" by CSCOA1::CANIPE () Thu Mar 21 1991 16:01

My friend has found a kitty that needs lots of love and care. The
kitty was found at her office this morning with two of his paws in
severe pain - someone had tied rubber bands around two of his legs and
cut the circulation off. He was in pain, and severly dehydrated and
starving (he was unable to move himself to get food and water!).

She took the kitty to the vet and right now, they are soaking his feet
trying to avoid any amputation. He's on double antibiotics and tested
negative for feline leukemia, aids, worms, etc. He has short grey hair
and appears to be about two years old, and he has yellow eyes.

She said he is very loving and would make a great "lap cat". The vet
recommends that he remains an indoor kitty, due to the sensitive
    condition of his paws...

So what we are trying to do is find this poor kitty a home. I already
have four kitties in an apartment and my friend has two. She is going
to keep him until we find a loving home for this victim of abuse. Hard
to believe, but the kitty is so friendly to humans and still loves
    people.

I'm located in Atlanta, Georgia but I'll do whatever it takes to find
the kitty a loving home (as an indoor cat). The vet is giving him
treatment to try to save his two paws and hopefully, we'll have a
    happy, healthy kitty soon.

If any reader out there is interested, please respond in this
    conference.

Thanks for listening - it's so hard to believe people can be so cruel
    to animals.

Oh, Val. How terrible for that poor creature. Thank God you were
there to help him. I wish I could help but with 6 indoor cats and an
old toy poodle in a 3 rm. apt. way up here in Londonderry, NH has
reached the "overcrowded" zone; some I adopted and others just showed
    up near my door.

Good luck in finding him a home an please keep us posted on his
    condition.

please pass it on to her.

4477.3When Will It End?SANFAN::FOSSATJUThu Mar 21 1991 16:4415
My god, when will this cruelty stop!!! This special little kittie will
be in my prayers - I just know he'll come out of it all right.

Just once, I want to be around when someone is doing this Sh#@! In one
of the bulletins I got from the SFSPCA - it showed a picture of a cat
found in a back yard screeming it's head off - someone had used a hole
punch and punched both it's ears and ran string through it, not to
mention the fractured leg, etc. The cat made it - all in one piece and
    found a wonderful home.

Best of luck and please keep us posted as to how he's progressing.

    Good thoughts,

4477.4Perhaps the owner didn't do the abusing?BOOKIE::FISCHERThu Mar 21 1991 16:479
Just on the chance that this cat was abused by someone other than the
owners (I've heard stories about what some of the kids in my neighbor-
hood did to cats), you might want to consider placing a "found" ad.
With the cat being as affectionate as it is, there might be a heartsick
human out there sorely missing him. I realize anyone answering the ad
would have to be screened so that this cat would never again be exposed
    to such a cruel prank.

You two are WONDERFUL to help this poor baby. Thank GOD for people
like you. If it weren't for folks who help animals I dont' think
I could stand to live in this cruel world.

Please let us know how this little guy is doing. We'll do what
    we can to help.

I have a friend who moved to Atlanta (Marietta) in August. She is a
real cat lover and has one indoor calico (Squeaky). I really don't
know if she could or would want another but you can call her and ask.
I would call but a plea from someone who has first-hand knowledge of
this poor guy might make a better case. She might know of someone who
would take him in. Her name is Lori at First Town Mortgage (800)
235-7760 ext. 230. She is new in town and anxious to make new friends
too. Tell her you are from Digital and that Sue in DEC Piscataway
    asked that you call.

When I see this sort of mindless, ignorant, cruelty, I can only PRAY
the that ALL jurisdictions will adopt LAWS such ahs some
states--including Mass, by the way--to put these inhumane criminals
behind bars where they belong, and where they cannot hurt any more
    defenseless animals.

I know of at least THREE of these MONSTERS who won't be seeing the
outside world for a few years anyway because of insane cruelty to
animals in Mass...2 for crimes against dogs, and one for a crime
against cats. Two of them received sentences of 10-to-15 years, and the
other one 3-to-5 years. All of them were forced to undergo Psychiatric
treatment, and all three have also been prohibited from owning ANY sort
of animal for the rest of their miserable lives!!

Thanks from all animals for taking this poor kitty and helping him...

"Boo-kitty", which is what everyone is calling this little one, seems
to be doing much better. He had three foot-washings yesterday and last
night, and will receive more today and tomorrow (they are washed in a
solvent provided by the vet). He's also on the anibiotics. This
morning, the fur was beginning to fall off his two paws (this was
expected, part of the healing process) and he slept through the night.

My friend (Denise) and one of her co-workers are taking care of the
kitty. The vet bill was over $110 and the folks in the office
contributed over $75 with more coming in.

They are putting notices in the neighborhood near the office where the
kitty was found, and don't worry, if anyone responds that it's their
lost kitty, Denise and friends will carefully screen the person, their
    home, etc.

Regarding .7, Denise is calling Lori to see if there's any chance she
    might want another sweet kitty.

I'll keep everyone updated - thanks for the support....I only hope that
this story has a happy ending!

If I could, I would !!!!!!! But I already have 4 inside and 1 stray
that I am currently taking care of plus a large dog.

I get SO SICK when I read these stories. I just want to do the same
thing to the *being* that did this to the poor animal. Wonder how
ther *being* would like to possibly lose their hands or feet due to
lack of circulation and to also be starving at the same time????

I am *SO GLAD* that you two found Boo-Kitty and are giving him the
care and treatment he definitely deserves.

The best of luch in finding him a loving home.

4477.14BOO-KITTY HAS A HOME!CSCOA1::CANIPEMon Mar 25 1991 10:1022
    WONDERFUL NEWS!!!!!!

A colleague of mine here at the site in Alpharetta will be giving
Boo-Kitty a wonderful new home soon!!! Bob already has a kitty that he
found last year that was abused, and he took her in and gave her a
loving home (now she's a happy cat!). Bob is very excited about
Boo-Kitty and I know will make a terrific owner for this special little
    kitty!

I can't say enough wonderful things about the support and caring from
you all - it amazes me that in the face of such inhumane cruelty,
somehow something GOOD is the outcome - Boo-Kitty will have a wonderful
new home with someone who will really care for him, I've had the pure
pleasure of "meeting" all of you and above all, it's confirmed (for
me..) that most people are kind and good and that in the end, the good
    will triumph over evil!

My best to you all - go home tonight and give your kitties a little hug
from me, on behalf of Boo-Kitty.

can get rid of all the %$#@!@ in the world. I know I'm dreaming

Boo-Kitty goes back to the vet today. As it looks today, he will loose
part of his back foot and only his toes on his front paw. The vet
seems very positive that he will recover well and lead a next-to-normal
    life!

    I appreciate everyone's concern!

It is with such sadness that I enter the final update on Boo-Kitty.
His infections were too great for hope for recovery and on Friday,
Denise and her vet made the decision to put him to sleep.

I am sorry to report such a sad ending to a story that was filled with
such hope. Boo-Kitty must have felt the love bestowed on him last week
from everyone he encountered, and this is a comfort to me.
