4452.0. "Shadow expresses his opinions....." by CRUISE::NDC (Putiput Scottish Folds DTN:297-2313) Tue Mar 12 1991 07:26

For sale CHEAP - ONE scottish fold B*R*A*T!!!!!!!

No, only kidding, but the thought sure came to mind this morning
when I saw the mess in the cattery.

As most of you know, Mr. Shadow, aka "the doe" (Not to be confused
with Dundee aka "the doo"), has been trying to express his new found
manhood to his sister Angel. So this past weekend I purchased a
nice big Tokyo cage and since I didn't like the shelves that came
with it, I purchased two very nice full shelves and one corner
shelf. I also purchased some nice metal dishes for food and water
that clamped to the side of the cage. This all totalled $155 + tax.

Well, I introduced Shadow to his new cage last night and decided
that he should spend his first night in it. I left the door to
the cattery open so the others could visit Shadow and Batman.

This morning when I got up, the door was closed. I openned it to
find Shadow, Angel and Halie locked in the room. Shadow was out
of his cage and there was catlitter EVERYWHERE! Also, both water
dishes were empty - their contents also decorating the rugs.

Seems Mr. Shadow decided to express his displeasure at being in
his new cage around 2:00. Jack tried to wake me up and when he
failed, he just let Shadow out of the cage and closed the door
failing to notice that Angel was in the room.

So this morning I had the pleasure of cleaning up this mess, vowing
to get a covered box in that cage somehow, and marking the calendar
so that if Angel turns out to be pregnant I'll have some idea of
    when she's due.

Oh Nancy...I'm sorry...but I have to laugh. It's just so nice
knowing that a Hollywood star like Shadow still has the Brat
in him. I always pictured the show kitties as very calm, relaxed
and trouble free. You just painted a total different picture. (tee
    tee)

Honestly...This weekend Dewey was almost sent back to the junkyard
we found him in.. because he decided to jump on my dining room table,
slid on the tablecloth and my brand new lamp which I got for
xmas...slid to the floor and crashed. I hit the roof..I was
crying..and my husband said "now Sandy you know it's are fault
for putting it there". POW...my comment was "why didn't you
buy a rubber lamp dear!!!" We both cracked up laughing and
    Dewey was saved.

Gee, Nancy, when I saw your opening line I almost took you up on the
    offer!! :^).

Cute story... but I guess it's not so cute when you're stuck cleaning
    up the mess. :^(

4452.3T' ain't easy but it can be doneWR2FOR::CORDESBRO_JOset home/cat_max=infinityTue Mar 12 1991 12:0516
Nanc,

You can get a covered box in the tokyo cage. You just have to lift the cage off
the base to put it in. Scooping it and cleaning it are a bit more difficult.
You have to leave enough space between the top of the lid and the shelf above to
be able to lift the lid off for scooping. And, when we clean the boxes, we lift
the lid off and leave it in the cage, just removing the box part. It isn't easy
but it can be done. Sure saves on cleanup of the bottom of the cage.

For those of you that think purebred show cats are demure...guess again. I come
home to messes like Nancy described almost *daily*. They just like to make sure
that I don't get bored in the evenings, and that I have plenty to keep me busy.
Don't let those calm demeanors fool you, they are still mischevious brats under-
neath it all! :^)

Yes, Jo is right, beautiful, angelic looking show cats can really be
devils in disguise. Case in point:

Last Thursday night I bathed Murdock [for a show on Saturday we never
went to... could his plan have worked?]. Friday during lunch I come
home to let TK and Nikki back into the house. Well, what do I find but
dirt from the ficus tree strewn everywhere including the kitchen floor
and up and down the stairs..... and one innocent looking Birman cat
with dirt all over his pretty white feet. He has NEVER gotten into my
plants before!! But, he probably has the whole show routine down-pat
now... get bath, see show gear, and do something drastic to let mom
know that you would rather stay home on the weekend!!

    :^)

Yeah, they are all *brats* at one time or another - but we couldn't
    live without them.

Preschie had a er um snit/tantrum.. I had given her
a bath on Friday nite,, and Lo and behold somehow
while I was sleeping that nite,,she managed to make
some "curlyques" in her furcoat..!! Of course
we found them at the show... Thank Heavens for MAMACIN..
Er um.. Preschie didnot me want to fix them. MamaCin

Well, it could have been worse. The litter was practically brand
new when he decorated the room with it.

Don't tell any of them, but I wouldn't trade this for anything!
    Love those bittens!!

4452.8CRUISE::NDCPutiput Scottish Folds DTN:297-2313Wed Mar 13 1991 08:112
This morning there was only 1/2 a catbox worth of litter to clean
    up. We're making progress. ;-)

Have you ever noticed that when you first impose some new condition
on your cat - e.g. keeping Shadow and Dundee locked up during the
day - they fight you tooth and nail over it, making you chase them
all over the house etc, but after a few days to a week of the new
routine they become accustomed to it.

Shadow and Dundee gave me all kinds of grief about being locked up
during the day. Now they both run up to the back room after they
    eat breakfast. Go Figure..............

4452.11He has a few other jobs as wellAYOV27::TWASONFri Mar 15 1991 02:5413
    Nancy,

Murphy does this all the time, especially 7.00 am in the morning when
we are trying to get out the door to work - then he scoots out in front
of us and John spends the next 10 minutes chasing Murphy round the
garden over the fence into next doors garden and back again - and when
he is finally caught he looks at you, grins, gives you a throaty laugh
and says "But Dad (Mom).... it's my job!"

    Cats.

Murphy must be talking to Dundee and Bonnie. Dundee flies out the
door when I go to get the mail and Wednesday night Bonnie made
a streak around the yard at 9pm!
