| >>> Sudafed -- warning
specifically, the 12 hour capsules are at issue. If you have
any 12-hour capsules, do not take them. Two people have died from poisoning
in one lot number of the drug. Sudafed 12-hour capsules are being recalled
nationally because they are sold in blister packs - leading the manufacturer
to accept the possibility that tampering occurred before the capsules were
packaged. The deaths have been limited to Washington state so far - one
other person did end up in the hospital, but survived. From descriptions of
the effect of the drug, these capsules are LOADED - the victims collapsed
within minutes of taking a dose.
It's getting scarier out there....

Caution -- you should dispose of old medications in the toilet. Tossing
them in the trash makes them accessible by dogs, cats, and wildlife
(skunks, raccoons, etc.) who rummage through garbage -- either at the
curbside, or at the landfill.

| I guess there IS an advantage to not being able to take
pseudo-ephedrine.

| I heard on the news this morning that they found a problem with
a different lot number of Sudafed. It appears most of the
problems have been with the 10 pack and the same lot number....
but they also found one case where there was a 20 pack and a
different lot number.
I say....throw them all down the toilet!

I think it might be better for you to return them to the store or
any store just so the company can find out what has and has not been
tampered with. The information might help them track down the culprit.
Boy! I'd like to see that sadist caught. GGGRRRRRR !!!!!!!!

| YEAH, Fry the sick-o!!!
I just wanted to point out something I heard on the news this AM. It
seems that the people who were killed/sickened by the tainted capsules
failed to take caution with, or failed to notice the tampering of the
package.
So ANYTIME you open ANYTHING that seems suspiciously, or even accident-
ally unsealed, just don't take any chances....BRING IT BACK! I never
ever, ever, ever, use anything that seems tampered w/ since that
tylenol scare!!
What kind of pleasure could this weirdo get from seeing news reports of
unknown people dieing!?! I hope they find this guy & give him the
leathal injection!! Great point, NDC re:returning them to the store/co.

| The store will *refund your money* for the recalled product.
(Sudafed will reimburse them, and, in turn, probably be reimbursed
by their insurer.)
Some of these meds are expensive. And it wasn't MY fault I got
stuck with about $12 of sudafed capsules. It figures...I always
used to by the regular tablets. Recently was the FIRST time I
bought the long-acting capsules.
After the tylenol scare, I would only buy tablet forms of meds,
no capsules. Got real paranoid, and even asked the pharmacy
to change one of my prescription meds from the capsule to tablet
form. They said other people had made similar requests. I'm back
to capsules now, however (slippery = easier to swallow ;-)

I only did that once....the long acting caps knocked me out in 30 minutes...
oh well, I guess I have an advantage in being very vulnerable to the side
effects of these drugs. I had to give up all of them except a caplet of
Benedryl at night when I go to bed if I'm really in trouble.
I'm not sure they will find this poisoner. It's been on the news strong
enough to bring on "copy-cat" murderers...unfortunately, there are some
very amoral people out there.

| Yes, its strange how these things run in "batches"...sigh. Guess
we'd better be extra careful with everthing - medicines and FOODS too.
I seem to recall jello that was tampered with in one of the earlier
poisonings.
