| | Do you think it's wise for your friend to bring another kitty into
the house at this time. Isn't it true that the virus lingers for
some time and you should wait a while (I'm not sure how long) before
bringing another kitty into the house? You may want to check this
    out.

Actually, it's just the opposite. The virus cannot live very long outside
its host. From the Norden Laboratories literature on feline leukemia:
"Feline leukemia virus is not at all hardy. It can survive only two to
three minuters in air and only two to three days in a moist environment
    other than living cells."
However, being the germ freak that I am, I would probably thoroughly
disinfect or just buy new food and water bowls and litter box for the
    new cat.
    Re: .0
My deepest condolences to your friend. I've lost two cats to feline
leukemia and I know how hard it is.
I don't know anyone who breeds Maine Coons, but I've seen some very nice
M.C. look-alikes turn up in animal shelters.

| | Call Esther Ventola, Essiecoons Maine Coons, (508) 634-9818. She is in
    Milford, MA.

In Yarmouthport, MA (Cape Cod), Cheryl and Bob Kearns, 508-362-8826. I
had the pleasure of benching next to a very nice couple at the
Mansfield show who own a Coon of the Kearn's breeding. What a love he
was, not to mention gorgeous! This cat was the most laid back Maine
Coon I have ever seen. He behaved better than Murdock, my Birman, and
Murdock is a pretty mellow cat!!

| | I'm going to try to make it to both Linda (in Gardner)
and Pricsilla's (in Lunenburg) shelters this weekend...
so I'll keep my eyes out for a Maine Coon.

The Maine Coon's are the big furry guys with no tail
or is it a Bob tail?????

| | Not the ones I have seen. MC have Long bodies and big ruffs and gorgeous
    eyes and LONG FLUFFY TAILS.

The always remind me of a man's cat. BIG but always mild in temperment.

| | I wonder if your friend would be interested in adopting one
of the cats from Pat Brody's shelter. I have some photos of them
and many are big fluffy cats similar to Main coons, in lots of colors.
They need homes badly, since Pat's death. See notes 415.923 and 4414.*

| | Flash's name has been added to the Silver Lining Memorial list.
If you'd like a copy for Cheryl contact me when I put in the note
saying its been sent out and I'll send you a copy.

There are several catshows coming up in this area and it would be
a good chance for Cheryl to meet and talk to some Maine Coon breeders.
Maine coons are very popular in this area so she should have lots
of choice. Send me mail if you'd like more info on the shows.
There is one in Westerly RI this weekend.
