4412.0. "Pining for missing partner .." by BLKPUD::WARNESG (Finns det ngon hr som talar Svensk?) Mon Feb 25 1991 09:36

    How do you best console a cat when it's long term companion has gone
    missing ?

    My situation is that one of my two cats, a neutered male, has been
    missing 3-4 days now.

    The remaining cat, a 2yr old spayed female, appears to be really
    lonely (lonesome) without him about.

    I'm still hopeful of a return, but in the meantime - any tips on
    taking her mind off him. I'm away most of the time, hence why I
    acquired a 2nd cat (to keep each other company).

    I've alerted local rescue agencies to keep an eye out for him in
    the meantime.

4412.1COME HOME SOON!XNOGOV::LISAGive quiche a chanceMon Feb 25 1991 09:5416
    Graham,

    This sounds familiar  :-(

    We lost Percy almost a year ago. His sister missed him so much she was
    ill. The way we solved it was to get her a couple of companions! She is
    much happier now. If this is just a short term prob (and I hope it is!)
    then just give her more attention when you are there.

    I hope hre brother comes home soon, let us know!

4412.2I 2nd the extra attentionHDLITE::SCOTTMon Feb 25 1991 12:034
    Schnapps and Rici were a little confused for the first several
    days after Tequila was adopted out to her only-cat home. I agree
    w/ .1 in that the extra attention has made all the difference.

    I agree that a little more attention might work. Also you
    might want to look at note "4139" which gives many good
    suggestions on trying to find a lost cat.

    I wish you all the luck in the world. We're still
    missing CAM after 8 months...and I still look
    for him and wonder what happened. There is such
    an empty feeling...now I know what your kitty is going
    through.  He misses his friend.

    Have you checked with your neighbors? Missing cats are often
    accidentally shut into garages, basements, sheds, etc. in the
    neighborhood.

4412.5Thanks, here's my plan ...BLKPUD::WARNESGFinns det ngon hr som talar Svensk?Tue Feb 26 1991 08:3214

    Thanks for the supportive comments and suggestions in the last few
    replies.

    Should the worst happen, ie he doesn't return :-(

    I'll strongly consider another feline addition to cheer up my poor little
    loner (probably another rescue/sanctuary cat)

    He'll be a hard act to follow though !

    I do hope your cat returns, but if not, might I suggest a small gray and
    white kitten? Or a brown and white one? See note 4402...

    (Just doing my best to find the kitties a home ;-)

    to the UK., Perhaps Interoffice mail ;^)
4412.10Trivia -- England has a 6 mo. rabies quarantineCIMNET::PSMITHPeter H. Smith,MET-1/K2,291-7592Fri Mar 01 1991 14:3710
    Actually, I did look at the rules for importing a cat to England, years
    ago. Not much point, since the kittens would be 6 months older when
    they got out of quarantine :-)

    In 1976, my father got a job in Vienna, Austria, so we packed our
    things and flew there, cat and all. We were originally going to stop
    over in England, but switched to Paris, France when we found out that
    just _landing_ the cat at Heathrow would require that she be
    quarantined for six months. England is rabies-free, and wants to stay
    that way.
