| Snowball has been placed with Lori Barr. She was delivered last night.
Lori has an adorable 6 month baby boy that Snowball will be growing up
with. Thanks for all the help in placing Snowball in a loving home.
I know she will be loved and cared for with Lori.
It's funny I already miss not seeing a streak of black whenever I
moved. But she will be happier with Lori.

Don't ask me how she got the name "Snowball", my boyfriend thinks
her name should be "Eightball". :-)
Anyway, Snowball is adjusting nicely. I have an old clawfoot bathtub
that she loves to hide under. :-) She sat on my lap for two hours
last night and then sat beside me on the couch for another hour,
but took off like lightning as soon as I got up. She is very scared
right now, but I think she'll come around soon. Last night my
boyfriend was sitting in the living room doing a jigsaw puzzle and
he looked up to see her peering around the corner then she walked
over to the window sill in the kitchen and put her front paws up
and looked out the window. As soon as he called her, she took off.
She's really a beautiful cat and I think we'll get along just fine
if she would only learn to stop clawing me. :-)
One thing I need to find out about though, is her extreme case of
dandruff because she's so nervous?

Lori,
Glad to hear Snowball is adjusting fairly well. Cats don't
like 'new' surroundings and it will take a little time for
her to get used to them. But I'm sure it won't be long before
she finds her favorite spot. Which most likely wouldn't be
your first choice for her favorite spot. =)
As for the dandruff. She could just have very dry skin or
maybe an allergy of some kind. Your vet could tell you for
sure.

| Snowball was originally named Phanta. Phanta is suppose to be the
female version of Phantom. Since I rarely saw her I thought the name
fit. However my roommate (an excessive joker) thought it would be
funny to have a black cat named Snowball. When he called her Snowball
she actually responded. When called Phanta she just gave me a "you
really don't think I'm going to answer" look. So Snowball named
herself sorta.
Her dandruff the vet said is caused from her going from excessive cold
to a nice warm and sometimes dry house. Her fur was extremely thick
and is now starting to thin. Once she finishes shedding the dry skin
should clear up.

| Snowball is quite the character I'll tell ya. :-) I couldn't find
her anywhere when we got home from work yesterday. We looked behind
the bathtub, behind the toilet, under every piece of furniture that
we thought she could fit under, in the pantry we even checked in
closets that were closed. It was weird, she didn't appear to be
anywhere. I decided I was going to have another look, so I got
the flashlight and like Inspector Clouseau I went on a hunt. I
checked everywhere I had checked before just to make sure I didn't
overlook her the first time. She wasn't under the tub, she wasn't
behind the toilet, she wasn't under the chair in the living room.
Then I decided to look behind the sofa and there she was all rolled
up in a little ball. God only knows how she managed to get back
there. Anyway, as soon as she saw me, she took off and ran into
the bathroom. I went in after her and closed the door so she wouldn't
take off. Your probably all wondering why I had to chase her around.
Well, she refuses to eat unless I put her and her bowl of food on
my lap. It takes her about an hour or so to finish and then she
spends about 15 - 20 minutes cleaning herself and then she's off
again. It's really cute to watch her. :-)
Well, at about midnight last night, my son decided that he wanted
a bottle, so I got up to get him his bottle and again didn't see
Snowball around. I went into the living room with my son and handed
him his bottle and then went back into the kitchen to get something.
When I went back into the living room, there was Snowball, all curled
up on the back of living room chair with her little head on a pillow.
I should have taken a picture, she was so cute.
I guess she's coming around and I don't think it'll be long before
she actually comes running up to me when I come into a room.

| I have a question. Is it unusual for a cat not to meow? Snowball
has not meowed once since we got her (hard to believe it's been
a week already!).

| I don't know about meowing, but there is a big difference in purring.
Sweetie can be heard in the next room, but I actually have to have
my ear pressed against LB's side to hear him purr. I wonder why
this is....

| I don't think it is that unusual. Murdock very rarely meows. Neither
does TK. I will hear from TK when he wants to go out or be petted,
other than that he is a very quiet cat. Purrs up a storm though.
Nikki churps and chortles a lot but doesn't really meow. Kelsey is the
only one of my cats who meows in the true sense of the word.

| Neither Purrkins nor Cassandra meow much at all. Cassandra ALWAYS says
"Geshundeit!" whenever Jane sneezes and Purrkins is starting to meow
a little to let us know he wants crunchies. Peaches, on the other
hand, "talks" all the time. Right after breakfast he "sings" near the
top of his lungs for about 5 minutes every morning.

| Snowball gave one meow the whole time I had her. It was the first
night I had her home. I gave her some food but she was so weak she
couldn't get to it, she looked up meowed, I moved her so that she could
eat and that was it. Since then she hissed once or twice, but never
meowed again. They only time my cats meow is when the hear the can
opener, especially when it is tunafish.

| Ming does the silent meow trick most of the time. Mocha will yowl
when he wants to go out doors, and Mr. Miyagi talks all the time
and mixes it up with meows. They all purr differently (like when
you are laying in bed and don't want to get up so you don't open
your eyes to see who is there) and we know just by the purr. They
are purr VERY loud.
Maybe Snowball will meow when he/she is more comfortable in
the new surroundings.

| Lucifer has been placed with my babysitter's daughter. Things are
going great for him. Talk about a spoiled cat!

| After much contemplation, I have decided that Snowball needs to
be placed in yet another new home. I feel that because of the fact
that I work full time, she is not getting the constant attention that
she needs to get over the fear of people. I have had her since
Feb. 18th and she still spends 99% of her time hiding under my claw
foot bath tub. If she were placed in a home with someone that was
home most of the day, I feel that she would be much happier. Snowball
has had all of her shots but has yet to be spayed. She's about
8-9 months old and has not gone into heat as of yet. If anyone
knows of someone that would be willing to take her, please contact
me via mail as I've been very busy lately and haven't had the time
to read this conference much. I will keep her as long as necessary
to find the right home for her, I will not bring her to a shelter.

| Lori, I am sure that this decision was hard for you to make. I hope
that you find Snowball a great new home.
I have a cat that I got as an adult named Kaisha. Kaisha was very shy
too. She has lived with us for about 14 months now, and is really
starting to come around. She will now come to me when I call her, and
only startles every now and then. She is really a love, just was very
distrustful at first. Sometimes it takes quite a long time for them to
come around.
Again, good luck finding Snowball a new home. Wish I could help but I
can't take in anymore right now.

| Lori - I also wanted to wish you good luck. And to add that after
living with us for 16 months Bob is starting to show signs of feeling
more secure. He's always been pretty good about talking to me but
Jack says he "forgets" sometimes because Bob will run away and hide
if Jack tries to approach him to pat him. I think it has more to do
with how he and I approach Bob that with a preference on Bob's part
for females. If there was a stranger in the house - even my infant
nephew, Bob was no where to be seen, either under the couch or behind
the waterbed, usually.
Well, of late I have noticed that his curiosity about visitors is
starting to overcome his wariness and he'll show himself to check
out the newcomers. He came out when Priscilla was at the house.
Its taken a long time, but he's definitely making progress.
So keep working on Snowball while you look for a new home for her.
It takes a long time with some kitties.

| I'd like to add an adendum. It's not so much waiting for Snowball
to trust me that I'm concerned about. It's that I have a nine month
old son that has a great fascination for animals. The girl who
babysits him has a cat and my brother has a dog and he just adores both
of them. It just amazing to watch him when ever he's around these
animals. The smiles on his face the laughing, and just the general
joy it brings to him. I would love for my son to have a cat that
he can enjoy, not a cat that hides whenever it hears a slight movement.
I also don't like the fact that Snowball spends 99% of her existance
under my bathtub (this really bothers me!). This is why I feel
that it is important for me to find a more suitable home for
Snowball. I don't think it would be fair for me to bring another cat
into my home until I do so.
