4382.0. "When do cats come in heat" by XCUSME::FULTZ () Wed Feb 13 1991 12:55

    	Me and My husband just got a new cat. I put in a previous
    note about hair balls.(same cat)

    	Her name is Digger

    For the two/three weeks she has been mowing her head off.

    Only at night.. (during the day she's fine)

    She seems like she is in heat.. She rolls on her back and
    really bugs the nutered cat all the time.

    She doesn't go outside.

    The other night she was in the bathroom with my husband and backup
    against the sink stand and pissed on the stand.

    How long does a cat stay in heat?

	I am going to get her nutered as soon as I can. Will this
    fix the problem?

4382.1Hang in there!AKOCOA::FALLONIsn't that a Mooncat?Wed Feb 13 1991 13:008
    Yes, more than likely this spraying behaviour will stop once Digger is
    "fixed". Some cats can stay in heat for about two weeks but it can
    differ. Hang on if you can, it isn't the best thing to do to fix them
    while they are in heat. Consult your vet and maybe you can set up an
    appt. for when she might be coming out of heat and before she goes back
    in again.

4382.2she may go back into heat fairly soonTYGON::WILDEwhy am I not yet a dragon?Wed Feb 13 1991 16:545
move fast, however, because a cat will often go back into heat fairly quickly
after going out of heat. A visit to the vet is the best way to figure out
how, when, where, etc.

    After "experiencing" Halie in heat, I can't understand why anyone
    would purposely keep a non-breeder cat whole ;-) What a pain!!
    And Halie isn't even a siamese - She yells, but she doesn't
    scream. The most annoying habit was spraying.

    Anyway - it varies how long a cat stays in heat and how frequently
    they come into heat. I agree with the previous noter who advised
    you to move fast when she goes out of heat.

    Good luck

    BTW - the first paragraph of my reply was just a general comment and
    wasn't intended as a criticism of the basenoter at all.

4382.5Friends of animals here she comesXCUSME::FULTZThu Feb 14 1991 09:418
    Thanks.. She was okay for about two weeks and then it's she came
    back in. I will get everything ready for the friends of animals
    today and consult my vet.

    Thanks for the information. - I agree with note .3 how can any one
    stand them without being fixed.

    Thanks again.

    As a follow on:

    I have a 7 month old British Shorthair. I haven't seen any signs of
    "heat" yet (thank goodness). All my other dealings have been with
    "moggies" and they have always been spot on 6 months and get wisked
    away. This new young lady will not be spay until I've shown her a few
    times and if I can find a suitable husband (she's silver tabby). Or her
    calling drives us crazy (husband + 3 cats).
