4359.0. "Cat's Mood Swing" by BEDAZL::BRASSARD () Thu Feb 07 1991 20:55

I'm just wondering if anyone has run into this type of behaviour.

    Our usually mild-tempered, fun-loving kitten/cat (9 months old)
just yesterday starting crying and biting when picked up. In
addition, she even hissed...and got very upset. Tonight, she's
    doing the same thing.

She's been fixed (about 2 months ago) and had all of her shots.

Anyone else run into this type of behaviour?

Sounds like something's wrong...does she go outside? She
could have hurt herself or gotten an abcess. Crying, hissing,
and biting when picked up indicate that being picked up
hurts for some reason. If she keeps it up today, I think you
should have the vet look her over.

I agree with Sherry....keep a close eye on her because my
guess is that she probably don't feel well or something hurts.

My Barkley was a real B&%$# when he had an abcess. We couldn't go
near his tail and he beat up on all the other cats in the house.
    He was really CRANKY.

    Keep us posted...Sandy

Hi, thanks for your responses... I will definately keep a watchful
    eye on her.

She does spend the day light hours outside each weekend..so there
might be a chance she could have hurt herself. (?) She's not limping
or anything so I never suspected anything to be wrong.

    Well, thank you again.

If her behavior continues beyond 24 hrs DEFINITELY take her to the
vet. Sounds to me like she's in pain. I wouldn't even wait the
    24 hrs I don't think.

    Is she eating?

Nippa is notorious for mood swings. Although a few months ago
She really had me worried, so I took her to the vet for a checkup.

In short, she was perfectly healthy and he attributed her behavior to
recent changes in the surroundings. So if your real worried, take your
cat to the veif nothing's wrong, then all your out is the cost of the
    exam.

Nippa hates to be picked up, unless *she* wants to be, she'd rather
sit beside you than be handled. If she is picked up when she dosen't
ask, she cries (whines?), growls, hisses, and then bites......untill
the person figures out that she doesn't want to be held.

    She's such a fickle cat......

I would take her to the vet. Something must be hurting. I
wouldn't like to walk around with an abscess or a toothache.

    Hi all,

Just wanted to report back that all is well. I worried at work
all day on Friday and when I got home, she was absolutely fine.
She didn't act weird or anything, plus I tried to see if she
had any sore spots or anything. All was fine.

I let her out Saturday for the entire day -- what a gorgeous
day! She had a blast and charmed all the neighbors....she was
great when she kept checking in and finally came in. Then,
she was out all day today (Sunday). Tonight, she's zonked,
    happy and content.

I think it was the being stuck in the house for 5 days in a
row illness! But thank you for all of your replies. Appreciate
your response and I won't hesitate to ask you all anything in
    the future.
