| Lynn, Murdock does the same thing to Dana -- jumps on his back whenever
he bends down and they ride around the house together. He hasn't
ripped anything yet, but if his claws haven't been trimmed it is
painful! One night we were having burgers on the grill for dinner.
Murdock was on Dana's back and Dana goes out the slider to start the
BBQ with Murdock along for the ride! I could have killed him!! But,
Murdock just held fast and didn't even try to jump off.

My cat Callie jumps on you whether you're standing or bending down.
She gets that look in her eye and you KNOW that she's going to
pounce on you.
Last week, I came home from nite school and Callie was all excited
to see me. So I pet her and told her what a good girl she was, etc..
Then I went into the closet to hang my coat up and she had actually
put all her four paws on the edge of my kitchen chair and as soon as
I came out of the closet she jumped on me. Needless to say she
scared the @!*& out of me! I think she may have some Siamese
in her because my husband's Siamese used to be able to put all
fours on a DOORKNOB!

your shoulder or back!

| at least they don't wrap themselves around your head! Nicholas sits on
the back of the couch when I am sitting down and then wraps himself
securely around the back of my head. The other night I stood up and
walked into the kitchen with him laying on my shoulder and gripping my
head....it doesn't have a lot of dignity to it, that's for sure.

Is it the Siamese in a cat that makes them want to jump
on you and/or balance on something!
Boy I learn more and more about the Siamese and Audrey from
this file! She loves to jump on us. I can't be in front of
the stove or she'll jump from the wastebasket to my shoulder
or back if she doesn't jump far enough! yeouch! I don't
want to think of what will happen once summer rolls around
and I'm in tanks and t-shirts!

It *must* be something Siamese-y for sure. I've been known, when
preparing something utterly delectable at the counter, to have two
little blue cats on me, one on each shoulder :^} Thank goodness
they're small and light (5-6 lbs), and I keep their claws trimmed.

really trying to get on my shoulder, she jsut trying to get over me
and out the door!
Bosco's too chubby to jump up that high.

| ...and I though Ekahi had an unusual skill!
She jumps from the floor and lands right on your shoulders.
She'll sit there like a "living fur stole" --legs hanging
over one shoulder, head rubbing your cheek on the other side.
She likes it best when you walk around the house with her
on your shoulders!

4350.12 | Look Before THEY Leap!! | NEWPRT::SZAFIRSKI_LO | | Fri Feb 01 1991 18:21 | 21 |
| ....and here I thought Freeway had some kind of unusual trick too!
She's not Siamese, mostly mixed gutter rug rat! She doesn't just
reserve this special flight from ground to shoulder in less then 2
seconds for Dad, even though he has her "favorite shoulders". No
my little girl loves to fly on to anyones neck that comes thru our
front door.
I'll never forget when our downstairs neighbor, who happens to be 6'2",
came upstairs to borrow some butter. He was talking to my husband and
before he knew it he had a layer of furn wrapped around his neck (the
guy was pretty shook up cuz he didn't know what hit him!)
Freeway also gets that mischief glassy look in her eyes right before
take off!
Must be something in their basic fur face family roots, dating back to
them big ole cats that stalk and climb huge trees.

My Chief climbs on my back when I'm on all fours in the garden weeding.
Must look really strange to the neighbors, sometimes cars slow down and
I just know they are looking at me. This big tuxedo cat all

| When Black Thunder was a kitten, she used to jump up and wrap herself
around my neck in the morning. It was awkward trying to drink coffee
and smoke a cigarette with her there. She always loved to nuzzle to
make mommy laugh.
When she was older she stopped that but then started jumping up to your
shoulders for loves and hugs. She also loved it when I bent down to
work on something. She used my back as a surveying post. She just
likes to make sure I am doing everything right.
I do sort of miss the *fur stole* on the cold mornings.

| Cocoa has learned this trick as well (yes, she's siamese!), every
morning now, when I blow dry my hair, she waits on the edge of the sink
for me to bend down, then jumps on my back, kneads for a bit, then
makes herself very comfortable! Boy, is that a little rough on the
old body! Of course, she's then very offended when I want to stand
back up and she is quite cozy! I tried getting farther from the sink,
but my cord won't reach very far! Guess she's got me!

I try to keep Bijou's claws down to the bare minimum, but on occasion
his claws can get a bit much if I forget. Well, about a month ago I
was getting ready for work and as usual Bijou was helping me shave, put
in the contact lenses, brush my teeth, swab out the ears ( he likes to
pay me back on this one), etc. For most of the time he like to jump up
on my shoulders and sit up there.
Well dad needed a little privacy after his shave so I put Bijou out and
shut the door so I could catch up on some reading of the latest Cat
Fancy. Well of course dad doesn't have his shirt on because he still has
to go dowstairs and iron it. (where are those ironing fairies when you
need um !!) As I thumb through the mag, Bijou decides to open the door
and come on in. He jumps up behind me on the toilet tank and then up on
my shoulder. For some reason he just could not get comfortable so he
kept moving around. Well as it would, the little guy lost his footing
and proceeded to slide.... CLAWS OUT .... down dear old dad's back !!!!
This would of smarted if I had a t-shirt on never mind bare skin !!!
After the smarting subsided I decided to include Bijou's clipping in my
calendar..... Oh and another thing. Always wear a shirt while reading !

4350.17 | there's a moral in this.... | TYGON::WILDE | why am I not yet a dragon? | Mon Feb 04 1991 20:01 | 26 |
| re: .16
this reminds me of the most important warning to give any man with a kitten
around. NEVER, NEVER bend over while not wearing underwear....I am friends
with a married couple who are absolutely besotted with cats and who,
as a result, always seem to have a kitten or two running around a house
full of 7 - 15 cats (it varies from year to year as older cats pass on
and younger ones come in). One day when I visited I learned of a very
painful "adventure" that had led Glenny and David to this little piece of
wisdom. It seems that one of the kittens was in the bedroom one evening
while the folks were settling in for the night...and the kitten was not
in sleep mode, but PLAY mode. David chooses to sleep in the buff and was,
as they say where I come from, "buck nekkid" as he was completing the
last few tasks before climbing under the covers....at one point he bent
over to pick his socks up from the floor with knees slightly flexed, and
being a very tall, lean man, he presented a view to the kitten in which
certain er, ahem, "bits" were clearly visable, and according to Glenny,
"dangling right there, tantalizingly"....well, the kitten took a flying
leap from the bed and attempted, with some success, to attach itself
to the er, "bits". Glenny said she had never heard such a sound from
David in their 10 years of marriage. The kitten was immediately propelled
across the room in a deep arc, and being a kitten, it landed unharmed
but very confused. David now wears pajama bottoms until he slips under
the covers and puts them on as soon as he arises in the morning. The
kitten is doing fine, but is much more circumspect about what it launches
towards with intent to hang on.
