4349.0. "Pippin the Guard Cat" by SANFAN::FOSSATJU () Thu Jan 31 1991 19:27
A few months ago while my husband had the three kids out in front, he
noticed a couple of guys waling a large unleashed dog up the street.
As they got closer, Gino (the coward) ran into one of the shrubs,
Stitch ran into a bush and Pippin walked back into the house. As the
dog got closer Gino took off up the stairs and the dog noticed the tail
end of a cat bolting up the steps - of course he took off after it.
So, cats are running in and out of the shrubs - the dog ran up the
stairs and ran right into Pippin who was sitting there WAITING. By the
time he got up to the landing she had blown up to twice her 9 lb. size
and was making cat sounds from the grave. Because of her coloring she
blends quite well into the shadows and the dog didn't see it coming
until she flew at him and hit him right in the nose - attached herself
to his body and the two of them proceeded to tumble down 25 steps and
out into the street - Stitch jumped straight up out of the bush and
into a tree while Pippin and this 85 lb. dog are rolling around on the
sidewalk. Richard and the dog's owner are trying to break it up but by
this time she's got the best of him and he bangs his head right into a
praked car. She detaches herself from said dog and stands her ground -
the dazed dog is trying to focus his eyes and she then proceeds to tell
him off - turns on her heels and walks back to the front step giving
him a loork which says "JUST TRY IT BUDDY". The dog's owner said he
had never seen anything like it - shook his head - packed up his poor
pooch and left.
Yesterday, Vinnie, the neighborhood Terrier who looks like Asta and
likes to play with cats paid ours a visit (on a leash) Again Gino took
off sending distress signals on the way - Stitch proceeded to rub noses
with Vinnie (he likes cats) and then the Pippin appeared out of the
shadows - walks up and comes between Stitch and said dog and utters a
warning - the dog thinks she wants to play and tugs on leash - husband
warns dog owner but she doesn't believe him - Pippin advances and takes
one quick swipe close enough to Vinnie's nose while she is slowly
taking on the appearance of a bat out of hell. Dog retreats and Pippin
stand her ground with same evil look in her eyes. Dog and owner tak
off probably never to be seen again. Shucks, I like Vinnie.
Anyway, I'm considering getting one of those signs that says 'BEWARE OF
GUARD CAT" as she is quickly establishing a reputation. Amazing how a
dainty, feminine and gentle 9 lb. cat can turn a dog of any size into a
trembling coward.
And after each incident she goes and checks out her two "baby" brothers
to see if they are ok??? walks around looking very smug and very very
pleased with herself.

| I have the rug which says *BEWARE OF ATTACK CAT*. It has a calico
kitty sitting there. DejaVu the Protector is a calico. How
appropriate.
