4274.0. "Kitty Presents" by AUKLET::MEIER (Collector of Glass Insulators) Thu Dec 27 1990 12:32

I thought I'd start a note where we could share stories of FELINE-related
gift giving. I'll start :-)

Tigger bought a couple of neat presents for Bill and me. The first was a
bird feeder that takes suet-cakes, plus a starter-set of 2 suet-cakes. :-)
Bill hung it with the regular bird feeder, in a (hopefully) squirrel-proof
location (both feeders are also billed as being squirrel-proof) on the
back deck, which is off of the kitchen and accessible through a large sliding
glass door. Prime viewing for the three of us :-)

Tigger also bought us a ceramic cat -- an orange tabby like himself, curled
up in typical Tigger fashion. Size is approximately that of a donut. Perfect
scale to put under the mini-tree we have this year, too :-)

I also bought us a ceramic kitty...I guess you might call it about 3/4 size, or
even life-size if you have a smaller cat than we do :-). This kitty is also
an orange tabby, and is sleeping sprawled on top of a piece of wood, which I
will compare to a horizontal piece of staircase bannister (railing). It is just
so cute :-). And then, last night I watched while (for the first time as far
as I know), Tigger climbed up on our horizontal railing and started walking
along it. I would have freaked out if he had sprawled out on it :-), but in
reality he walked down to the end, and put his front paws up on the window
sill, which wasn't that close! It's for times like these that I have to
keep the camcorder easily accessible and ready to use!

4274.1"woman buried alive under foam balls"PARITY::DENISEAnd may the traffic be with youThu Dec 27 1990 22:1520
I got my bunch (11 - guess that's a large bunch) the usual allotment
of catnip mice and boxed catnip. They cannot wait to get that. In
fact I didn't wait till x-mas...it's too much fun watching them get
blasted on it! I also got them a hooded cat box, an unhooded box,
a velour bed, and the infamous foam balls. Those foam balls are quite
remarkable. They are one of the cats' most favorite toys, however they
have this incredible ability to disappear completely! I have bought
about 6 dozen of them over the past year. And not a one seems to
remain for more than a day or two. Amazing! I can't imagine where
they might be in the house. Almost all my furniture can be easily
looked under. Somewhere, in some very remote, little visited spot,
there must be an enormous pile of brightly colored foam balls, stashed
away by some clever cat for a future mega-game of ball. I can see them
now, blue, yellow, green and pink....somewhere. Maybe one day I'll be
looking for something else, and maybe open a box or something and be
buried under a pile of brightly colored foam balls......I can see the
headline now.....mmmmm, where could they be hiding them? I mean
    really, where?

re: where are the balls - There must be at least 30 little superballs
(called "cat balls" in our house) stashed someplace. I figure they
go to the same place that socks lost in the washingmachine end up.
      :-)

Oh and 11 cats qualifies as a "clutter" of cats I beieve :-)

Obviously they are in the same place as our 6 dozen fur mice reside.
4274.4A new kind of toy!AKOCOA::FALLONIsn't that a Mooncat?Fri Dec 28 1990 10:1711
I got our kitties a little brass bed. They have used it once or twice
but the "newness" seems to have worn off. A toy that we use and is
most satisfactory in the eyes of our cats: belt loops!!

We cut off the belt loops from an old pair of jeans and then hand them
out as warranted. Wing in particular will play with one for hours.
She picks them up in her paws and then tosses and bats them about.

A word of warning though, you must sweep under the frig every once in a
while! They tend to collect there.

Flirtaysha seems to know your hiding places since that must be where
her kegs(cute little toys they were- all 7 of them!)are hiding too.
4274.6Be Careful with small ballsWILLEE::MERRITTWed Jan 02 1991 12:3814
I also have 7 kitties who love to hide their little tinfoil balls
everywhere. I must have 50 of them hidden somewhere!!!

Please be careful with small balls. Did anyone see 911 last night
where a dog was playing with a squash ball and got it stuck in it's
throat. This poor thing actually was choking, died and a Canine
policeman did mouth-to-mouth and the dog survived. Scared the
    heck out of me.

My new rule....they will only play with a ball that I know they
can't swallow. They do like tennis balls because their claws
can catch it during the swipe.

just give stanley or stella the ring off the top of the milk jug. it
is light-weight and easy to carry in their teeth. they will play
chase-n-fetch for hours with one of these things.
