I have a family of mice living in my roof (of a 1729 house). My kitten Carly is having a field day, but I"m about to have a nervous breakdown. Does anyone know where I can get one of those ultrasonic contraptions that supposedly wards off mice? (I know I've seen them advertised on Home Shopping Club but don't think I could stomach a marathon viewing session for the next week waiting for it to come on). Thanks MUCHO IN ADVANCE, C

Don't waste your money....they don't work!!!! The ones that HSC had for fleas didn't work, either! L-

What you need to do is in the daytime (when they are out of the attic) block off all the places they are getting in. Don't do this in the dusk or evening, when they are already inside as they will be trapped.

Hi, Re. .1 The ultrasonic mousers do work, but only to a limit. When I lived in the Catskills, we bought a house infested with mice that had lived there so long they had evolved into two distinct types, the upstairs mice and the downstairs mice. The upstairs mice were grey and white and the downstairs mice were brown and white. One never caught an upstairs mouse in a downstairs trap or vice versa. Anyway, to the point. We were a little on the desperate side as to what to do about all these mice, so along with the usual accoutraments such as traps, poison, etc. we tried an ultrasonic de-mouser in the kitchen. Although this did not rid us of mice altogether or even totally in the kitchen, we did notice a distinct decrease in the number of mouse tracks (and mouse in traps) in the kitchen area. I'm afraid to tell you that once mice are firmly established, it is almost impossible to get rid of them entirely. But if you keep at it, you can put a serious dent in there population. re: mousetraps - I happened to catch an episode of "this old House" over the weekend and Norm was visiting a big tradeshow in ?Chicago? that was open only to folks in the trade. One of the items on display was a better mousetrap. I was delighted to see that its a very humane type trap that works similarly to a have-a-heart and Norm even said it was designed so that you could relocate the mouse. I just liked the emphasis on the humane solution. |
