| Check the back of Cat Fancy Magazine. They have ads for "appleheaded"
Siamese in there.

| When you say triangular shaped head do you mean the newer typey head
(my interpretation)? An apple head would be more to the round side of
things with not a very long profile. If so, we may have some being
born around the first of February.

(we would have the more typey head)

| I would say that the apple head is not exactly what I want. I would
like the head a little thinner (not a lot thinner), which gives the
face more of a V shape than an O shape. I guess you may have what I
would be looking for. Does my description sound like what you may be
having? The body is usually not very delicate either and of course it has
longer hair than the oriental siamese.
Thanks,
Ruby

| Hmmmm, what you are describing sounds like something in between the
appleheads and the current look in Siamese. Don't know if we can
help you there.
And the comment about it having longer hair than the oriental siamese
really confuses me. Siamese are short haired.

4245.5 | "Traditional" Siamese are not in Vogue NOW | CSDPIE::CHERWEK | | Thu Dec 13 1990 11:26 | 10 |
| Jo,
A "traditional" Siamese's hair is not anything like a Persian, etc.,
but the hairs are longer and appear to be thicker than an oriental.
The oriental has sleek fur that hugs the body and to me looks like,
no offense please, a rat. I don't know your point of reference, but I
have already owned two traditional Siamese cats. One died of natural
causes at age 20 and my last one was killed by my neighbors in their
driveway in November. My last one was an adoption and I don't know
where he came from, otherwise I would contact that same breeder.

4245.6 | Now I know what you mean! | AKOCOA::FALLON | Isn't that a Mooncat? | Thu Dec 13 1990 11:55 | 11 |
| Hi again! This may help, Wing is a traditional type with apple head.
Her fur is very dense and most like (if you believe it) a Russian Blue.
If you go into some pedigrees there are actual Russian Blues in there.
So her fur is quite soft but not long. If this is what you are looking
for but with a more up to date head type, all I can say is good luck.
What you need is a none show type cat and will have to look around. I
guess what I mean to say is that no one tries to breed one that is like
this. You might have better luck looking for one with either a head
type or a fur type, but not both. (You might find one, but not without
a lot of looking) :,)

. . . or maybe you could look into the Tonkinese, which has been
developed by breeding Siamese to Burmese. The Tonk is a larger,
heavier cat than its Siamese ancestors, and the head is more of
a modified wedge. I know there's a Tonkinese breeder in Manchester,
NH, as she was profiled in the local paper a couple of years ago.

| I talked to the basenoter and also suggested she contact the shelters.
A siamese that comes into a shelter may be the style for which she
is looking.
There is also the "backyard breeders" but there are real risks
associated with buying from them - an issue which we also discussed.

| I work with a contractor (he is leaving DEC on friday of this week
and he raises Siamese. He told me a couple of weeks ago he has one
more little boy he would like to sell and was willing to lower the
price. He is afraid to advertise as he doesn't want someone to buy
it for a christmas present for someone and then that person not
like it.
Give me a call and I will put you in touch with him if you are
interested. I believe this little boy is a RED point.

4245.11 | Traditional Siamese Breeders Association | SIMGJH::HOFFMAN | Joan, PC Systems & Peripherals, MLO | Mon Dec 17 1990 16:36 | 25 |

I talked with the basenoter last Friday, and gave her the name &
address of the Traditional Siamese Breeders Association, as well as
three breeders in the MA/RI/NH area who only breed "apple-headed"
Siamese.
If any one else is interested in the association, the dues are $12/year,
which includes a breeders' list and monthly newsletter. Send the $ in
a self-addressed stamped envelope to:
Diana Fineran
Rte. 14 Box 412
Jonesborough, TN 37659
The kittens are all leukemia-free, hand-raised, and vary in price from
$150 and up (Remember that they're not a recognized breed yet - hence
the lower price for the kittens.); some breeders also have Balinese
kittens as well.
I'm glad some breeders are continuing and/or returning to the old-style
Siamese - especially for those of us who have geriatric (18 years old)
Siamese fur-faces at home!
