| Denise, yes, the problem should stop once your girl is spayed. Best to
do it soon though, and wait until she is out of heat to take her in for
the surgery.
Also, neutered males can spray when around females in season. To
ensure a happy household, try to get your girl in for spaying just as
soon as you can.

| Cats that are in heat can have very strange toilet habits, the sink for
example! When yuor cat is spayed she will behave more properly like
a young lady should! Consult with your vet as to how soon he will do
the operation.

| The sooner the better to have your female fixed.. in fact they both
should be fixed (if your male isn't).

| Females can and should be fixed at 6 months of age unless your vet
says you have a good reason to wait (like the cat is still too small
in which case she may not go into heat - like Bonnie). And the problem
of marking is just as likely to be your male as your female in this
situation.
Also, you should know that poor litterbox habits are a classic
symptom of a bladder infection and the marking may be totally
unrelated to the female in heat. Determine who is doing the
marking and talk to your vet about it.
In any case, please spay the female ASAP. Heats are a stress to
your female which is unnecessary if she's not part of a breeding
program. She'll be MUCH happier and healthier when she's spayed.
If $$ is a problem contact me at 297-2313. I have applications for
low cost spay certificates that will help.
And please feel free to ask any questions in this file.
