She Loves the Animals Nobody Else Wants
Get Sharon McCaffrey near an animal and she becomes absolutely
miserable. "I sneeze and wheeze and break out in hives" Sharon
says."I have asthma and I'm alleric to all animals"
So why does she live surrounded by - at last count- 25 odgs, 110
cats, three horses, a rabbit, a ferret and a turtle?
"It's my life's mission" Sharon explains. "These animals need me.
If it weren't for me, they'd be dead."
At Sharon's home - also known as the Namcha Home for WAyward
Animals - unwanted, unloved, sick or disabled animals are welcomed
cared for and treasured.
Sharon's been rescuing stray animals since she was a child. "I'd
come home with a dog or cat and tell my mom, 'it just followed
me home'" Sharon says. "I haven't stopped since"
Sharon started Namcha, a fram located on 15 acres in Elverson,
PA, in 1984 and runs it solely on donations, her life savings
and her earnings as a claims adjuster. Sharon's generosity knows
no bounds when it comes to her pets. She regularly spends $200
a week just on pet food alone. "I can't tell the animals they
can't eat this week. So I feed them instead of buying groceries
for myself.
"People might think my priorities are lopsided, but animals
give unconditional love" Sharon explains. "It just breaks my
heart when people treat animals as if they're expendable."
And just when Sharon thinks she has no room for another furry
friend in her household, she'll com home to find a carton of
kittens or an abandoned dog in her driveway. "I can barely
squeeze in anyone else. But I always manage to make room."
And it's a job that has no quitting time. Every morning at
5:30, Sharon's up to clean the kennels and feed and exercise
her pets; after work it's more of the same. "It doesn't
leave much time for a social life," Sharon, 39 and still
single admits. "Most guys don't understand that my animals
always come first.
But somehow the animals thank me for taking them in"

| Sharon sounds like an angel from heaven. I can't even imagine
that many animals....and I complain because six cats sometimes
have me going crazy!
Nice article!! Sandy

Mike,
No, I'm not kidding....110 cats. There's a picture of her
standing in front of what looks like a desk or small table.
There's probably 6 cats on it!
(although I did notice a typo in that line...it was obviously
25 dogs not...odgs =) )

| And I assume she lives on a farm, not a fram ;-)
Boy and I complain about 12! Actually, its not the 12 that bother
me, its the results if I get lazy about the catbox :-)
What a super person! I wish I had the energy and committment (and $$)
to do that kind of work. Surely there is a special place in heaven
for such people (and a special place in hell for the other type).
