4189.0. "Bottle stuck on head!!!" by AKOCOA::FALLON (Isn't that a Mooncat?) Mon Nov 19 1990 13:05

    Beware of bottles!!! My husband just called me to say he had just
    reurned from the vets. Ruby had gotten her head stuck inside a
    bottle!! He turned around and saw her flailing about with this bottle
    on her head. Then she must have passed out and gone completely limp.
    He took her in his arms and RAN to the vets office just down the
    street. Dr. Holub knew just how to work it off her head and said it
    was good that he got her there that quickly. Any longer and the tissue
    in her head would have swollen and they would then have had to break
    the bottle and cut it off.

    She is now fine and running around the house again, I on the other
    hand, not to mention poor Jimmy am a wreck, I think I could get sick!
    My husband thought and reacted quickly enough and saved our cats life.

    By the way, Dr. Holub says this is a very common thing, so all of you
    should be aware of this.
    Thank God for small blessings!
    Karen, Ruby, Stinky, Wing and Arthur

    What kind of bottle was it? I guess with Ruby's head type, it could
    have been a coke bottle. ;^) I know, I know, now is not the time for
    jokes. :^)

    wow....I can't believe it. When you think your house is as
    kitty proof as it can possibly be...you hear another story.

    Well I'm glad Ruby's okay...and Mom and Dad need to calm down
    a bit!! It's one of these things that aren't funny when it
    happens,,,,but you can look at it down the road and say "remember
    when Ruby got her head stuck in the bottle".

    What kind of bottle was it.....

4189.3Do you mean "bless it's pointed little head" Jo?AKOCOA::FALLONIsn't that a Mooncat?Mon Nov 19 1990 14:088
    It was a dark brown old fashioned type of bottle. I would put dried
    weeds or herbs in it for decoration. The hole had a diameter of about
    1 1/2 to 2 inches. Thank you very much JO!! I just hope she doesn't
    have aproblem for lack of oxygen and also we expected her to come into
    heat again within the week. With our luck this will throw her out
    AGAIN!!!!
    feeling better now, and you're right "remember when.....8'}"

4189.5How horrible!CSSE::MANDERSONTue Nov 20 1990 08:5614
    Oh Karen - what a horrible thing to have happen!

    They find THE darndest things to get into, don't they?

    I remember Otis getting his head caught between the rungs of our
    dining room chairs and I freaked out. Thank GOD Tracey was there
    (she twisted one of the rungs and pulled him out) because if it had
    happened with just me there- poor Otis would have probably died
    because I lost total control.

    Hope all is well...and thank God Jimmy was there!

4189.6any head-sized opening is a problemTYGON::WILDEillegal possession of a GNUMon Nov 26 1990 13:4617
this reminds me of the time I was awakened in the middle of the night by a
thumping sound right by my head...when I looked over, Nicholas (a kitten at
the time) had managed to get his head stuck in a box - a decorative box used
to cover kleenex boxes - and then, just as I looked he tumbled right off the
nightstand and somehow knocked the box off his head in the fall. I did laugh
at the sight of him with his head in the box, but I was concerned that he
might have worried his head so much that he could have caused swelling and
ended up stuck in the d*!*mned box -- which would certainly have required
heavy tranquilizer for Nick while we sawed the box off of him...and heavy
tranquilizer for me to endure it. Needless to say, the kleenex box cover
went in the garbage immediately. Any vaguely head-sized opening is fair
game and cats DO forget how to get back out of things....keep jars covered,
keep boxes covered or filled to the top AND BEWARE OF GLASSES THAT MAY
ALLOW A CAT TO GET HIS/HER HEAD STUCK. keep them in sight or safely put
away....never leave them sitting with just a little liquid of some kind
in the bottom. All four of mine are big on raiding the iced tea or water
in my glasses and they have almost stuck a few times.
