4124.0. "Pounce Kitty Treats" by MARX::BARLOW () Wed Oct 31 1990 13:58

This is about my note 4100. To review, my vet thought that
my cat had ingested fiberglass and he seemed to think that it
must have been from food, since they are indoor kitties. I did
look all over my house and found no fiberglass products used
anywhere. The only suspect thing was a can on Pounce Shrimp
kitty treats. On the two occasions where we fed my cat these
treats, she bled rectally. (The first time, I was on a trip and my
husband fed her. By the time he noticed blood on the floor,
both kitties were clean. So that's why I even gave her the
stuff the second time.) I AM NOT saying that Pounce has
fiberglass in it. My guess would be that someone either
messed up one batch of this treat or that someone tampered
with the product before it was bought, at DeMoulas in Haverhill,
MA. Actually, I found out that while I was away my neighbor
gave this can to my husband for our cats. She had given her
cats some of these treats, as the can was mostly empty when we
got it. I also, unfortunately, cannot rule out the possibility
that for some odd reason, she put something in them or at
least knew they were bad. I would go ask her about it but we
don't get along so well. Perhaps if I bump into her I can bring
it up, but I don't want to accuse her. (My cat hisses at her
    everytime she sees her.)

Anyways, I'm sending the can to the company and hopefully
they can give me some info. Here is the number on the
bottom of the can, just in case it was a bad batch -
    # 83a14. It is a 4oz can of Shrimp Pounce. Also,I have
bought Pounce before with no problem.

I'm not sure about my neighbor's cats because her's are indoor
and I have never even met one of them. I don't know what to think.
I'll feel better after the Pounce company tells me what they found.
Even if my neighbor didn't put the stuff in the Pounce, she must have
known! With her cats being indoors, she couldn't possibly miss this
    amount of blood.
Of course, there is always the possiblity that my vet is wrong.

4124.4*ANOTHER POSSIBILITY??*AIMHI::OFFENFri Nov 02 1990 09:4512
My Lightning has Cystitus and Pounce brings on a bout faster than
anything else she has ever eaten. I'm wondering if kitty has Cystitus.
I don't by Pounce anymore because of what it does to Lightning. The
other cats don't get any symptoms but I give other treats now.

Poor baby.... I hope everything turns out OK and that you find out
    what caused it.

    Good luck,

4124.5I agree with Sandi!EMASS::SKALTSISDebFri Nov 02 1990 09:485
Sandi has a good point; If any of my FUS cats get pounce or bonkers, I
can almost guarentee someone's FUS will act up. Now, when I give
between meal snacks, I give them a piece of C/D.

I found a "treat" in the pet supply store (no sale of kittens or
puppies) which is hard, and dosen't contain Ethoxyquin. It is in a red
box, or sometimes in a small red plastic pouch. I can't for the life
of me remember the name.....but Nippa prefers them over pounce or
bonkers.....and when all else fails, a dry crunchie or two works.

What I meant to add was, Nippa eats part of the carpet pad. It is
fiberous. She'll also eat the boxspring.

If you cat goes outside, there is no telling what it might get into
while you are not there watching. I don't think that I would blame
it on the Pounce with this in mind.

Pounce also causes FUS in Holly within a day or two. I wonder
what on earth is in it that does this?

re: .8, my kitty is an indoor cat.
Also, she doesn't have any problem urinating. She acts pretty
normal now. Thanks for the suggestions, though.
