4093.0. "The Case of the Missing Part" by TPMARY::TAMIR (ACMS design while-u-wait) Fri Oct 19 1990 12:39

Hi all,

Biff is at the vets today being, uh, de-Biffed!! Poor Biffy...and he had
become so fond of his new parts.

So, here's the problem...the vet just called and said that Biff wasn't the
man we thought he was. Seems he only has one testicle. She said that the
other one either never showed up for business or it could be lodged in his
abdomen. She recommended going into the abdomen on a search for Biff's
missing part. Has anyone else experienced this before?? She said that
if left in place, it could become cancerous which is why she either wanted
to find the missing testicle or confirm it never existed.

Poor Baby Biff; he's gonna come home tomorrow with lots of stitches (and
a higher than expected vet bill....).

A worried Mother Mary

    Mary,

Sounds like Biff is a monorchid. I have one of those at home right
now. And to think, I had had high hopes for him as a stud.

The operation to find the other testicle can be expensive, but it
is very worth it. Not only will it reduce the risk of cancer, but
if you leave it there, Biff will still be able to impregnate females,
and could show all the behavioral habits of a whole male. Yuck!

When my vet and I discussed Towncat's neutering, she told me that
worse case scenario would be that the other testicle is in the abdommen
and that it could cost up to $200 to finish the neuter. Best case
is that it is just under the skin above when it should be. :^)

    Hang in there.

    Jo

Gulp. I hope it doesn't cost that much!! Thanks for all the extra info
on his manliness. Hopefully, it will show up and they won't have to search
his brain looking for it!!!

Poor little Biffy!!! Poor poor Mommy!!!

I just spoke to the my vet; the other part never showed up, so poor little
Biffy was a 'single shooter'!! He's still out like a light, but I can visit
him this afternoon when I bring Honey in for his bi-annual. I'll make sure
he gets a kiss from his favourite aunty!! You know, Kate, he wouldn't let
just anyone kiss him!!

Same thing happened to one of our 'boys'. I was summoned from a
meeting by my secretary for an emergency call. It was the vet asking
for approval for further surgery to find the missing part. I could
envision Rascal passed out on the table with the vet, phone in hand,
trying to track me down through DEC! They found it and he's fine but
the bill was a bit higher (not $200) and needless to say I had some
explaining to do when fellow workers asked about the emergency call.
We all had some real good laughs at poor Rascal's expense.

Hi Celeste,

My bill was a little higher, but I frankly feel that $58 was the bargain of
the decade. And I also got the emergency call from the vet in the middle of
a meeting. I felt overwhelmingly compelled to tell everyone at the meeting
about the nature of the call. It's a good thing my group knows I'm nuts....

Biff is doing very well, although he won't leave his stitches alone. He's
playing a little and eating well, so I guess he'll be OK, especially once
his fur grows back!! It's funny to see his little fat belly swinging in
the breeze! He's only 6 pounds, and looks like skin and bones, except for
this little pot belly....poor Biffy!! He takes after Mommy after all!!
