| Good Lord, your note made me thinkl of an incident that happened
20 years ago! I forgotten all about it! I got home from work
and had picked Susan, my daughter, up from the sitter, cooked
supper, washed the dishes, etc. Susan came in to the kitchen
and asked where the cat was - I tipped the apt. upside down.
NO CAT ANYWHERE. I looked everywhere - NO CAT. I was so scared
that I called the local police to come to check my apt. complex
with their big search lights - they really thought I was weird,
but I was so upset, that they figured they'd better show up or
I wouldn't leave them alone - they came - still no cat! Susan
and I were crazy by this time. A few minutes later Susan asked
me for a drink of milk - I turned around, grabbed a glass, opened
the refrigerator door, and out shot a VERY COOL CAT! I was so
shocked, that I dropped the glass and made a grab for the cat
to warm her up! The police were still out in the parking lot,
so we called the search off - what a relief. I really thought
we wouldn't see her again. She never went near the refrig. again!!
To this day, I check the shelves before I close the door.

| The sad notes from some time ago about cats getting
caught in dryers are always in my mind when I close
my dryer door, so I keep an eye out even though my
cats are indoors and the dryer is outside, since neighbor
kitties visit. This morning Khalife seemed particularly
interested in
the dryer when i was loading it and it occurred to me:
I pushed in the little contact that makes the dryer think the door is
closed, and then pushed the start button so that the dryer
started noisily rotating (really noisily and "scarily", since the
door was actually open). I think Khalife is going to
give the dryer a wide berth from now on.

My very first cat, acquired when I got out of college, had a VERY close
call while getting into a place where he did not belong. Inky was
somewhere between 6 months and a year old. I lived in a house with
forced hot-air heat - vents on the floor. I lost a very fine-chained
gold necklace down into one of the grates. I took off the grate cover to
look, and suddenly, out of nowhere, Inky was halfway down the hole!
Thank God my reflexes were good. I grabbed his tail near the body
and froze, so he couldn't move. Then once he realized his tail was
captured, he stopped wiggling, began crying, and I slowly pulled him out.
Then I collapsed on the floor thinking horrible thoughts about what
could have happened....it was winter and the heat was on.
AND, the necklace was on a ridge right under the grille, so I got it
back too!
Unfortunately he did not fare so well when he met up with a car a few
months later - I guess he had used up all 9 lives by then.
Those of you with forced air grates beware!
