actually, if you read reply .1, you can see that all the text is right
there, you just have to change the "screens" if you want.
And, since you have to @ it to run it, you can infer it's a DCL
program.
Lastly, my wife (in this instance :-) gives me too much credit.
I found the program, and just tweeked it for her/us. Original author
is (I believe) Andre Peters @ JGO.

Go to reply .1 and at the notes prompt, type:
EXTRACT/NOHEAD FILENAME.COM

Whatever you choose to name the file.
Exit out of notes.
At the $ sign, type DIR [return] and the file should reside in your
user directory.
Now simply type @FILENAME [return] and the program should begin
running.

I think a lot of folks mistakenly extract the note into a text file
when it should be a COM file.

| You don't have to exit notes either. Just issue the command: spawn
and you'll get a regular prompt. @filename and when you're ready to
go back to notes just logout of your spawned session.

| Okay,
When I did this the other day, after I did the extract/nohead and
named the file Putiput.com, a prompt came up that said Notes, but
it was highlighted and flashing for an entry. I just hit a return,
and got a message that the file had been created. When I exited
out of notes to the $, I checked the dir and couldn't find the file.
I tried the @putiput and it said "file not found".
Just now, when I tried the whole thing again, it gave me a message
that ;2 had been created. Again I exited out to the $ and typed
dir. Again I couldn't find the file, but my file count showed another
file had been added. So, I typed @putiput again and again I got
the "file not found" message.
So, I guess I am just in the Bermuda triangle today. :^)

| Jo, were you working within a subdirectory when accessing notes. For
example:
When I had an All-in-One account in my VAX account I could access notes
from either A1 or VAX. If I accessed notes from A1 and extracted a
note into a file, the file would be created in my A1 sub-directory in
VAX. Understand? If I didn't specify at the notes prompt to extract
the file into [RKAGNO], my user directory, it would put it in
[RKAGNO.OA], my A1 sub-directory. I would then have to (at the dollar
sign) SET DEFAULT [.OA] in order to access the file.
Is this clear? If you accessed notes from a subdirectory of your user
directory and extracted .1, the file probably resides in your
sub-directory.

| Okay, Jo, I think I know what happened.
Try doing it this way.
Go to reply .1. Make it current on your screen. Then type this entire
command string:
EXTRACT/NOHEAD PUTIPUT.COM
And press return.
You should then get a message that the file has been created without
getting the flashing notes prompt, and proceed as usual.

| I meant to add that the file is going to reside wherever your default
is currently at. What I was trying to clumsily say in my last few
notes is that you must specify where you want the file to reside:
EXTRACT/NOHEAD [CORDESBRO_JO]PUTIPUT.COM
The flashing notes prompt was simply asking you which note(s) you wish
to extract into the file. If you do not specify, it takes the
current note and writes it into the file [I haven't actually tested
this; it is merely an assumption :^) ]

| if using all-in-1, your default directory is not your top level directory,
but a subdirectory. To find the file, exit ALL-IN-1, and enter:
$ dir [...]filename.ext {the name you gave the file}
then execute the file by entering,
$ @[.subdirectory]filename.ext {whereever it is/whatever you called it}
you may also not have the correct type of terminal -- in that case, if you
find the file and execute it, you will get strange and wonderful garbage on
your screen -- means you cannot use the features (usually graphics) that are
used in the command file.

sorry, but I simply popped back into the conference, got Jo's question as
the first NEXT UNSEEN and answered it...I didn't read on to find the other
answers. Had the system been responding better, I would have known you had
it well in hand...I would have read all replies before replying myself.
