4027.0. "underground shelter lost" by EXPRES::BRODEUR () Tue Sep 25 1990 21:54

A feliner from Jamaica Plain was recently evicted from her apartment
(which has been a shelter for many abandoned cats and dogs in her area)
she needs homes for 5 of the cats and 2 of the dogs. She lost her
husband to be over the summer in a drowning accident and doesn't have
enough income to stay in the apartment. She has an adopted child so
it's been quite a blow to be put into the street by the court. She
has found countless homes for cats and dogs so we are all trying to
help with foster homes but unless she can find the right situation
it's doubtful that another apartment will rent to her with her
animals. So now the problem is to find new homes for the animals.
It's another case of the type of person who is of the mind to help
animals but eventually becomes resource limited. So what are we to do?

I'll try to get descriptions of the group as they become available.

How horrible! The "court" actually threw this woman out - with a
young child and all?! Gee, the landlord must have a lot of power to
do that, usually it seems the tenant has all the rights. My God, with
all that's happened to her, you'd think as long as she was showing
good faith effort, they'd give her a break.
Please send a list of the animals, maybe we can help there. There
are some apts. available in Haverhill that will accept animals, if she
is willing to come up there. I hope at least she has someone to stay
    with.

How awful! I live in Haverhill also, and it's quite reasonable
as far as rents go. I know of two landlords that allow cats.
Contact me for their names, please. Also, the Haverhill dog pound
will take them and they PROMISE not to kill them.

    by reasonable, I mean that I'm renting a Townhouse, 2BR, 1 1/2Bath
garage, W/D, W/W, LR, huge kitchen for $700. So an apt should be
    even less!~

most rents in Haverhill are around $425 - 600, depending on size.
