I did a dir/tit to locate a topic on this and couldn't find one but if one does exist, please relocate this note or delete it if it's redundant. Anyway, this may be of help to other noters. I was talking to a co-worker today about going on vacation and mentioned that I had left detailed instructions for the catsitter, including the name and phone number of the vet. He mentioned that since doctors need parents' permission to treat children, the vet may need my permission to treat the kids since someone other than myself would be bringing them in. Since I leave nothing to chance, I immediately called the vet and asked them what their policy is. They said they did indeed need my permission ahead of time, took my name, the kitties' names and the dates I will be out of town. Now I'm sure in a real emergency they would go ahead and treat the animal but in the case of it being something that could wait until they tracked me down to talk to me and request my permission, it's good to know that with this procedure they can just go ahead and do what they have to do and the kitties don't have to feel miserable any longer than they have to. So, if you're leaving your cats in someone else's care for any length of time you might want to check with your vet to see how they handle these situations. Terry

4020.1 | Vet authorization form | ZEKE::WARD | Meow..ME-OUT | Tue Sep 25 1990 16:11 | 9 |
Since I cat sit, I have a form which I ask my clients to sign. It is a vet authorization form. Now I don't know how legal it is :-) but it might be better than nothing in an emergency. Basically it says my client has authorized me to take the cat(s) to the vet if necessary and they will be responsible for up to $X. It also describes the cat(s). Thank goodness I have never had to use it yet, but it makes me feel better having it. Bernice | |||||
4020.2 | Vet visit necessary ... | XNOGOV::LISA | There must be a pony | Wed Sep 26 1990 05:03 | 14 |
When I put my cats in the cattery recently, they caught a bug and the owner took them to the vet. I hadn't signed anything, but I had left a sheet with their names, descriptions, age, food schedule and vets name address and phone number. I just sort of assummed that she would take them to the vet if they were ill. I would have been very angry if she had waited 'till we got back. I think this is the normal thing in the UK. You probably have to sign something if you DON'T want them taken to the vet! BTW They are better now - we are down to one cough/sneeze every other day! Lisa plus Pookie and Rolf. |
