4012.0. "It never rains, but it pours...." by BOOVX1::MANDILE () Fri Sep 21 1990 12:09

Hubby came home from work the beginning of this
week, to announce that someone had abandoned a
cat around his office building. "She" was a
young female light colored tiger, and very hungry.
I sent food in the next day with instructions to
bring her home if no one else wanted her.
THEY WERE FIGHTING over who would take her home!
(except my hubby, of course! :-)
She went home Weds with one of his co-workers.

Then, the phone rang Weds night.....My neighbor was
down the "Y", and there was a stray that needed a
home. She asked hubby if we would take him.
    He, of course, says no.
But, yesterday, I stopped off at the "Y" to check
on the cat's situation. The response was he has
found a home. As I walked out to the car, someone
came out and called me back. The cat was still
there, and did I want to see it? (like asking if
a kid wants a second ice cream cone! :-))
One look into the box, and the tears started to
fall. "He" was a short haired mute orange Morris
type with some white markings. His eyes were so
badly infected, (conjunctivitis (?)) that he could
barely see. He was very dirty, and his ears were
full of "scum". And his body, god, if I could only
get 10 minutes with the owner, I would have been
arrested for murder! He was nothing but a skin covered
skeleton, barely able to stand. I guessed a young adult.

But, HE PURRED! And asked to be patted. And I cried
some more. And I gently scratched his poor abused head.

His "Y" savior,Linda, will be taking him to the vets today
to see if he can be saved. He was so sick, I suspect
it might be FELv or something just as bad. I can only
hope not, and that he can be "made better".
I should know something about him tonight or this weekend.

Things always happen in threes, so I wonder what I will
    find next?

Don't feel that all is lost. It sounds to me like she hadn't eaten in
a while. The infected eye can be treated with an eye cream that is
applied in each eye daily. The plug ears you mentioned sounds like a
bad case of ear mites which can be cured with ear drops provided by the
vet. I'll bet after being on glucose injections(it's just like an IV a
person would receive only it's injected directly under the skin at 50
to 100 cc's every few hours). I'll bet in no time you'll be the owner
of the world's most beautiful and grateful cat! 8)
4012.2I've been there too...........RANGER::PELHAMLife NEVER ends, it just changesFri Sep 21 1990 16:0223
That'show we got our cat Felix (17 yrs ago)! She was scrawny, and
dirty etc.....my Mom (who hates cats) was working at the family
business (an auto parts place), ans there was Felix drinking a puddle
of "oil"! YUCK! Anyway, after giving her some milk to drink and
calling people to see if they could find a home for her, no takers wre
    found :^(

My mom came home with her that day and I named HER Felix (hey I was
only 9 at the time, and that's all the originality I could handle!)!
We brought her to the Vet and got her some shots, and she's been a
"miracle cat" ever since. She one strong lady, even 17 yrs later!!!

I'll tell ya, there sure is alot of junkyard cats out there!! It's
awful.... :^( Poor babies, brought into the world and they have no
loving people to LOVE them :^(

Your story brought tears to my eyes. I keep thinking about Felix and
what would've happened to her if my Mom didn't take her home :^(

    Thank God, for BIG favors!!!!!!

4012.3Sad ending to this story........BOOVX2::MANDILEMon Sep 24 1990 09:3217
Sad ending to this story......Linda, the person who took
the kitty, took him to the vet Friday. The kitty is actually
a very aged male. The vet gave her some vitamins and some
medication for his eyes, and she took him home. He spent that
night being well fed, warm & loved by her son.
The next morning, he was lying in his litterbox, unable to get
up. She rushed him back to the vets, and the vet discussed the
cats possibilities. His condition suggested FELv, and he wasn't
going to get better....He was dying.
The kitty was put to sleep Sat morning.........
Thanks to a few caring people, his last days were "Happy Cat"
days. The vet she took him to charged -0- for the two visits.

***** Rest in Peace, kitty *****

I wonder if the cat lived some place near the Y, and was
unable to get home after he became sick. possibly it
would be a good idea to check the newspaper lost ads,
or put up some posters in case his people are looking
for him (perhaps his poor condition -- eyes, etc. --
were because he couldn't get home.)
