| Chris, have you asked around the neighborhood to see if someone lost the
kitty? Post some notices on posts and trees giving desription of the
kitty and a # to call (yours or the humane society's). I know the
shelters are overflowing with kitties right now.
Sounds from your description that the kitty had been well cared for by
someone and may just have gotten out on them accidentally.
Good luck and keep us posted!

-< FOUND: BLACK KITTY IN NO. NASHUA >-
HI,
I found a kitty, well actually, it found me, by my apartment.
I live on Orange St. which is off of Concord St. in North
Nashua, NH.
He/She is a beautiful jet black kitten, I'd say about 3-4 mos
old. He/She had a clear colored flea collar on. He/She is
long haired and has a fluffy black tail. He/She has a very shiny
coat and clear dark eyes. I saw this poor kitten running down
Orange street going into the traffic at 8:00am yesterday
morning (Wednesday, Sept. 19th). The kitten greeted me at
6:00pm at my front door. I have two cats and I couldn't bring
the poor kitty in because it didn't know if it had leukemia,
which is very catcy. I let it in the porch and I fed it and
gave it some water. I know that the kitten has an owner because
of the flea collar.
This morning, I could not find the kitten but it was sleeping
underneath my porch last nite. It might have found it's way
home, I'm not sure. If my husband comes home from work tonite
and he find the kitten, he's going to bring it to the Humane
Society in NAshua because we'd hate to see the poor kitty
get hit by a car. We live in a very high volume of traffic
area.
If you lost a black kitty or know someone who did and it was
in the north end of Nashua, PLEASE send me mail.
PARFUM::CJOHNSON
Thanks!

| If you don't mind spending a little money...put a "found Kitty"
ad in the paper. We found two cats last spring (within a month
of each other)..put ads in the paper...and found the owners. The
kitties had just strolled too far away and it was a very happy
reunion. Or atleast look in the paper every night to see if
anyone has put an ad in about a lost kitty.
Good luck..

4007.3 | Take some time to find owners BEFORE the SPCA | BOOVX1::MANDILE | | Fri Sep 21 1990 12:19 | 8 |
| Contact the local animal control officer, the Police
Dept., and the local vets in your area, too. It
seems to me that with a collar on, it belongs to
someone, and they may have reported its loss, or
the local vets may remember having a new black kitten
come in recently for vaccinations or whatever....

| Re. placing "Found" ad in local paper(s), I've found from past
experience that the newspapers put a "found" ad in "free of charge"
usually running 2 to 3 days.

4007.5 | Free Ad - that's great | WILLEE::MERRITT | | Fri Sep 21 1990 13:11 | 12 |
| "Found Ads Free"....not where I live. We paid about $13 to have
the ad run for three nights. I think that is really nice that
your paper does this....because I know there are many people out
there that wouldn't spend the money on a cat which is not theirs.
My logic is....put the Ad in to find the owner...because if I didn't
find the owner... I would probably end up keeping the kitty which
would be more costly in the long run.

| One word of advice. Withhold some piece of identifying information
on the cat so that you can verify that you've really found this
cat's human.
Good luck and thanks for caring.

| .5 Not only that, but one of the local papers who ran the ad free for
me called me after the 3 days were up to ask if the cat's owners
claimed him yet. When I told them "No!" They printed it another 3
days for me "free". Unfortunately, the cat I took in was (as I
suspected) abandoned which is why I still have him. It will be a
year in October.
.6 I agree, Nancy, and did just that. I did get calls on him from the
ads but when they described their lost cats they didn't match
Midnight's description.
