| I have only heard of the dryer scare from this file. And boy I'm
glad it was put in. I have caught Schnapps in the dryer numerous
times. She's never tried to climb into the dishwasher though. I
always wonder about the refrigerator...

A few of ours are fascinated by the dishwasher, too, and I've had
to train myself to be especially careful when closing it up. Luckily,
the only places any of ours have gotten stuck are the closets. It
seems that the more you try to shut a cat out, the more they want to
get in and find out why! :^}

| I also have heard electrical cords might be a problem (did anyone see
Christmas Vacation?). Mine seem to play with the cords a lot. They
don't seem to gnaw, though.

| I've had one go for a few spins around in the dryer!!
Thank god I caught on to the noise and knew it couldn't
be sneakers in there.....
Yes, mine love the dishwasher and I have to pull one of
the four out of it every time. Two do this to me for
the washing machine, and B.K. spent a few hours locked
in the bathroom closet last night, again. He's always
getting locked into closets or cabinets.

| When I first adopted Hannah, she slipped past my legs and crawled into
the refrigerator while I was loading groceries...luckily, she was so
proud of herself that she stuck her head out and MMMMRRRRPPP'd at me
which got her fanny pulled out of there real fast! I was horrified
at the possibility - and she must have sensed it because she hasn't
tried it since.

| Fairly often at home, I nose count to make sure I know
where everyone is. Especially after I've opened the fridge
or dishwasher. Of course, this isn't too practical for ET, etc.

3981.7 | I can't help it, but I count a lot !! | TOPDOC::TRACHMAN | EmacX Exotics * 264-8298 | Thu Sep 06 1990 18:16 | 18 |
| Right you are, Karen, BUT, I still do it! It's sort of like
second nature - especially when:
I am going to go away for overnight
I close a closet door
I close the dryer door
I go in and out of the garage from the cattery
I leave in the morning to go to work - I take a last look - if I see
at least 12 or more heads, I feel a bit comfortable that all is well!
It's a bummer when the count is off by one. I call it the one-off bug!
Like when I am editing an Index, and the pages are off by one - editors
call that the 'one-off bug' - it's usually the baby (Dolly) that I
can't find - she is ALWAYS sleeping on the chair that is pushed in
under the desk - WHY don't I think to look there first???????????
She's ALWAYS there !! Silly kitten - more better, SILLY ME !!

late in the morning, one cat can't be found.

| Kathryn used to like to crawl into the fridge. One day my then
boyfriend decided to teach her a lesson by closing the door on her.
He then proceeded to forget about her! Fortunately I went into the
fridge after about 1/2 hr for something and found her there. She
was fine but HE came within an inch of his life!!!!!!!!!!!!

| I also take the nose count...if a nose is missing...both my hubby
and I go like madman through the entire house on a search mission.
It's amazing where they can hide...and do they come when you call...
NEVER....that would spoil the game for them.

| oh yes, I know that feeling well. Panic and search...after we have turned
the whole house upside down, out wanders a sleepy cat, curious about all
the noise and stuff..."you guys make SO much noise, I can't sleep - what's
going on?"...there is a reason they have such sweet faces...if they didn't
we'd strangle them! 8^}

| i had the same dishwasher experience...but it wasn't my persian who
thought about going in the dishwasher...my son (at the time three) got
mad at the cat for biting him and put him in the dishwasher...thank
goodness he didn't turn it on....I went crazy going thru cupboards
looking for a screaming cat and checking the cellar and then I looked
at the dishwasher and stove and thought okay it seems to be coming from
one of those appliances!!! Yikes...my cat after that didn't bite my
son again but RAN in fear whenever he saw him....don't blame him a bit!
My son by the wa<y never put the cat in the dishwasher again either!!!

| My cousin's cat got in the dishwasher and was run through half
of the first cycle. Luckily they heard the cat and found it in
time. They pulled one very wet cat out of the dishwasher.
They have never seen her near the dishwasher since.

3981.14 | hit the hood first!!! | MCIS2::HUSSIAN | | Wed Nov 14 1990 12:04 | 18 |
| Ohhhh! The poor babies!!! I can't believe it! Luckily I don't have
a dishwasher! (Unluckily for my dishpan hands!)
My baby girl gets into the closet when I'm not looking a LOT OF THE
TIME! But I always hear her scratching though! I'd hate to thing of
what would happen if I left the house w/ her in there! But like ya'll
I always make sure she's all set before I go out!
One thing I want to add here.......PLEASE!! Now that the weather is
getting cold in the AM, give a ratta-tat-tat to the hood of your car
before starting it up!! Ya never know when ther'll be a little fur
face in there trying to get warm!!! MY dad once had a litter of the
little guys in his motor!!! It was trylu awful! about half of them
survived, but mom & some of the babies didn't. It's really a good thing
to be aware of & doesn't take long to do!!
HHave a good one!

be easier on the poor cat ;-)
