| could it have been an abscess that burst? If so, warm compresses will
help draw out the pus. Ordinarily, you'd clean something like this with
a bit of peroxide, but since it is so close to the eye, I'd have your
vet take a look at it ASAP.

| Your vet must have someone who covers for him when he's out. There
should have been some instructions as to where to go in an emergency.
How is your cat acting? Good appetite? How's his energy level.
If you can, get his temp. I believe 101-102 is normal for a cat
so anything higher and he probably has an infection and should be
seen immediately.
Here's Jo's method for taking a cat's temp ;-)
1. Place cat on Ironing board or countertop. You want the cat at
a level that's comfortable for you.
2. stick cat's head under your left arm and pin cat against your body
with your left elbow.
3. Use your left hand to hold cat's tail up
4. Insert PRE-LUBRICATED thermometer and start counting "thousand one,
thousand-two....." You want at least 30 seconds but i you can get
him to hold still for a minute that's better.
I used this method to take Halie's temp to determine when she was going
to deliver her kittens and it worked very well.
*** I know that with eye infections you can use boric acid (make sure
its the opthalamic type) and that may help the sore under his eye
without endangering the eye itself.
Good luck

| Clarification:
Having said all that, I still agree with Deb that he should see
the vet IMMEDIATELY.

| Hi,
I reached the vet this morning.. he is on vacation, but I spoke with
his assistant... she said to continue the warm water bathing and
add some hydrogen peroxide.. I'm bringing him this afternoon...
She is going to put him on an antibiotic...
thanks for the replies..
The wound was caused by a cat fight... I found the remnants of a kitty
claw just to the left of his eye... I have two that get along 89% of
the time... every so often they really clash..
thanks again,
Kathleen & Cinder
