| I will miss him too. I loved that little poem he wrote, it used to be
one of my favorites! I guess I had forgotten it.

Thanks for posting that John. I will miss him, my favorite coffee cup,
a gift from my Jerry before we got married (about 100 years ago!) is
the cat flying over the city with her red scarf.
We call it my SuperCat mug, and Spot really identifies with it. She
flys through the house, and she has a nuce round belly too! :-)

| I've got at least 20 Kliban cat t-shirts and I, too, will sadly miss him.
My favourite is of cats in a rock band and their motto is "Sex, Mice and
Rock 'n Roll"...

| oh rats! and mice... ;-)
sorry to hear b. kliban passed away. i have several cat calendars,
mugs, the "love to eat them mousies..." checkbook cover, etc. i love
the momcat stuffed pillow. my fave is the t-shirt with "good ol' cat"
(the typical black-and-white striped fat cat with a ten-gallon hat,
cocked at a rakish angle over one pointed ear, a red neckerchief around
his neck, and the spur around the end of his tail!)
i hadn't seen anything new of his in the last couple of years. i will
miss that creative genius!

| Does anyone object If I add B. Kliban to the Silver Lining Memorial?
Seems appropriate.

3937.8 | The Far Side will have to fill in the gap... | MCIS5::MCDONOUGH | | Fri Aug 24 1990 10:40 | 27 |
| Well, maybe Gary Larson can come in and close the void somewhat
that has been left with Kliban's passing...
a couple of my favorite "Far Side" cartoons on cats 'n dogs are:
The one where the two people are sleeping..the cat's sleeping
alongside the bed....and outside the window stands this dog...softly
calling out to the two people..."Let the cat out.....let the cat
out..."
Another shows Noah's Ark being loaded...coming up the gangplank are
two cats....on the Ark are two dogs watching everything... The dogs are
speaking to Noah: "Check their papers!! They've probably got fleas!!
Ask them if they scratch the furniture!! They probably shed--we'll have
hair all over everything!!"
A third shows a dog sitting on the front steps of this house...a
cat is sitting in a tree...both are reading books... The dog's book is
entitled: "101 ways to skin a cat." the Cat's book is entitled: "Why
all dogs should be euthanized."
Kliban will be missed....now we need Larson more than ever...

| He will be missed.....I still have a set of Kliban pillowcases
that were given to me years ago. The one with the cat flying
with the red cape. No sheets, though.
But, I use them anyway, so what if they don't match!!! :-)

3937.10 | another for Larson | CSSE::CST | Isn't that a moon cat? | Fri Aug 24 1990 11:31 | 18 |
| JM,
I too am a fan of Gary Larson, sick tho he may be, some of it is
humorous!
How about the one where the dog has layed a trail of cat food leading
to the dryer. He is standing to one side patiently hiding and has put
a sign on the dryer that says cat fud?
OR
The one with the doberman jumping out a second story window, after
learning that "indeed, they had named him Binky"
(please folks, don't get mad at this!)
Most cat humor I have seen is pretty sick!

3937.11 | Ref "Sick" humor....and "macho" image... | MCIS5::MCDONOUGH | | Fri Aug 24 1990 16:25 | 33 |
|
As for the "sick" cat humor.. It seems that there is some sort of
feeling that men don't like or gravitate toward cats...and I think a
lot of the rather sordid humor around cats comes from this. Although, I
think Gary Larson's humor is 'strange' to say the least, but he has
some very "pro-cat" humor as well...especially where it has to do with
the BIG cats...
BUT!!!
Have you LADIES noticed lately that us MALES who happen to like cats
are FINALLY getting some recognition??? There's an ad on TV for a
particular brand of cat food where the MALE ACTOR in the commercial
just so HAPPENS to be one of the Linebackers from the Chicago Bears
National Football League team...Mr. Singletary!! For some strange reason
there has emerged this ignorant mind-set that men don't like cats. I'll
be the first to admit that DUMB, IGNORANT, men usually don't like cats,
but they don't like any dogs that aren't agressive like Pit-Bulls or
some other junk-yard crud-hound, so that SHOULD say something about
their mental capacity....
I'm happy to see folks like Rosy Greer and Mr. Singletary--who are
definitely "macho" role-models, come out publically with their kitties
in their arms instead of some slavering 99 pound set of fangs on a
log-chain!!
