This is *_NOT_* a note to solicit money BUT if moderators feel this is inappropriate, please feel free to delete! Hi everybody. The East Coast Feliner Party seemed to be a resounding success and we are planning another kind of get together. We briefly talked about it that night and the idea got an excellent response from all who attended. We would like to have a gathering of friends (feline of course...but anyone else who would like to come is welcome) who would like to get together one night for dinner, music, conversation and raise some money for a legal non-profit organization. A few come to mind: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)...Mass Audubon Society and I am sure there are many other favorites out there. First and foremost lets set a date. I felt that the middle of October would be good - I believe someone already suggested October 12/13/14 or October 17/18/19. We could have a D.J. - dinner - tickets will be sold at the door (or from me and some other people) and all money will go to the selected non-profit. My thought on this is to make it either a Friday or Saturday night OR a Sunday afternoon. The reason for this is that in order to get a D.J. - they usually (and I could be wrong) have a minimum of 4 hours play time (the DEC Big Band was suggested) and I thought it would be nice to have more than 1 or 2 hours on a work night to spend time with people. I don't want to call it a 'dance' (I'm single and know that that word could discourage some people from coming...thinking they might have to produce a partner) nor do I want to call it a benefit. Just a friendly get together where we could have a good time and also benefit our animal friends in some small (BIG???) way. Does anyone want to 'help' me and/or does anyone have any suggestions? So, now that I have thoroughly confused you - here is what I would like to throw out for discussion: 1. Is anyone interested in coming 2. Set a date (suggestions?) 3. Location 4. Name of the non-profit to raise money for I am MORE than willing to chair this thing (do I sound like a HOG...I really love organizing things but if someone else would like to take over or give me hand that's o.k. with me)....I just don't want to come across as being 'bossy'! Marilyn

Me, Me! Yes, I would like to help you. Maybe do some decorating? We can talk and see what is possible depending where I will be at the time. Karen, Ruby, Stinky, Wing

Marilyn, Call it whatever you'd like but whatever you call it I will NEVER be able to convince my husband to attend! I'll probably be single that night myself. I'd be interested. Keep us posted.

Folks, I want to preface this with I think that what you are doing is great and for a good cause, and I hate to do this but I am afraid that I am going to have to ask that the discussion and planning for this event be taken off line. I'm going to set this note NOWRITE. I will leave the base note, however. If folks are interested, please get a hold of the base noter. Deb

This note has been 'write-locked' because: 1. It _could_ be interperted as soliciting funds from Digital employees (which is against Corporate Policy) and/or: 2. Legal issues could arise - whereby Digital (as a company) could be seen as supporting one non-profit organization over another. Obviously I don't want to see any of the above happen, as I am sure none of you do either. I used to co-ordinate the Matching Gift Program so I do understand the policy...which is why I put that first sentence in the base note. In disucssing a feline get-together (off-line) the concensus is NOT to have a big party. People are generally more comfortable about getting together after work to share stories, photo albums and to meet one another. It is more informal and easier to fit into our busy schedules. Thanks for the support of my fellow noters/friends out there and I do apologize for having put the moderator(s) in the 'middle'. Marilyn |
