| Hi Karen,
I don't have any contact names, unfortunately, but would like to
inquire about your chosen breed of cat. I know you are currently
beginning a cattery (right?) but not sure what your breed selection is.
We have quite the variety here in Feline!!

3898.2 | Moon Cats! | CSSE::CST | | Tue Aug 14 1990 13:53 | 34 |
| Hi Roberta!
Thanks for asking. My choice of cats is blue-eyed white orientals. Of
course in breeding for this type I expect siamese (seal and chocolate
mostly) and also seal and chocolate lynx points according to the
pedigrees I've been studying. What I do like though (besides the
whites) is blues and lilacs. Perhaps if I find a stud that is up to
par he may contain some of these genes that could match some of Ruby's
past ancestors that were blue!
By the way, I met you at the cat dinner and had on a red and black sort
of dress. I sat next to Marilyn. My Cattery name is Moonsta (think of
"little monsters"). Ruby came from the Moonsilk cattery so I thought
in keeping with history the name should be similar. Oddly enough
Stinky's registered name is Majula's Full Sienna Moon, there is
something about this moon stuff. At the Cats Plain and Fancy show last
year a person came up to me and asked what kind of cat she was. I told
him OSH but he kept saying "no, that's not it, isn't it what they call
a moon cat?" I guess he had seen some previous whites from the
moonsilk cattery and thought that was the name of the breed! We all
took it as a great compliment.
You have birmans don't you? I have talked with Jo and to tell the
truth I don't know too much about them. Perhaps you can answer a
question for me! I am allergic to cats (YES, that's right!) and I have
always kinda wanted a long hair purebred cat to fuss over as a pet. Do
your cats create a lot of allergy type symptoms? Can you reccomend any
type? You might think this weird, I have a soft spot for Cornish Rexs
and have heard they are pretty mild in that dept.!! They feel
marvelously soft.
That's enough!

3898.3 | Welcome! | FSHQA2::RKAGNO | | Tue Aug 14 1990 14:17 | 31 |
| Thanks, Karen, for that info!! Now, I remember who you are :^) ! I
knew you were a new breeder, just couldn't remember what you chose to
breed. Very elegant!! Welcome to the wonderful world of Felines!
Yes, I have a Birman and a Ragdoll, and of the two, Murdock (Birman)
seems to shed less (probably because he is currently growing his coat),
and his coat is also much silkier than Kelsey's (Ragdoll). The Birmans
have no undercoat (or is that guard hairs? Jo will know), and
therefore my allergies (yes, I have them too!!) are much less affected
by the texture of their coats. T.K., my only shorthair, and Nikki, my
domestic longhair who has almost a Persian type coat, cause my eyes to
water and my nose to itch every time they come near me. They also shed
much more than Kelsey and Murdock. Their coats require a lot of extra
care.
Throughout this file there are notes which suggest that the allergic
reactions stem from the dander on the cat's coat (from the saliva)
versus the acutal coat itself. With any cat, dilligent grooming and
bathing would help keep the dander in check. I wouldn't go as far as
saying that the Birman is a hypo-allergenic cat, but I think you would
be less inclined to experience allergic symptoms than with another
breed of longhair cat. And there are a lot of other perks to owning a
Birman besides their coats, but then again, I'm a biased mom :^}.
Good luck with your program! I like your cattery name/theme a lot!!

| I too have allergies. I tested negative to the cat's saliva but
positive to the cat's FUR! Yes, I'm one of those few people who are
allergic to the cat's fur.
As for the cornish rex, of all of the cats that I own, my cornish rex
has got to be the sweetest! Although he does get into more than his
share of mischief, I wouldn't trade him for the world! He loves to
cuddle and loves to be held. And he's a GREAT foot warmer on those
cold nights!!! Their coats are cottony soft and they seem to be much
WARMER than most cats. Just like having your own personal electric
foot warmer! (-:
Seriously, if you are thinking of a rex, get one! They are GREAT!!!
and they don't seem to effect the allergies too much either!
congratulations on starting to breed white orientals! they are really
beautiful babies!

| Karen,
Call CFA and ask them for the name and phone number of the secretary
of Black Tie and Tails CC. The number for CFA is (201)531-2390.
I have a friend that has a blue eyed white oriental. They are
gorgeous. White is dominant, so you have that in your favor.
Do your pedigrees all list the colors of all the ancestors? I make
it a point to put the colors on the pedigree, but some breeders
don't bother. I can't believe that.

3898.7 | Thanks | CSSE::CST | | Tue Aug 14 1990 17:25 | 11 |
| Yes, Jo,
I have some pedigrees going back (I have to think) beyond six
generations. I'll have to check tonight. Anyway, they all list color
and some even the eye color. Thanks for the phone number for CFA!
The woman I got the Rubster from had a house filled with seven whites
all of them gorgeous! I have even been to meet other people who work
with her line and seen their "kids" and the kids kids! 8'>
Nothing like it!
Talk to you later!
