| I can't give you any reasons but the kitten I found on vacation does
the same thing. Our vet said the kitty (acutally catten) was in fine
health so I don't bother about it any more. I have heard that cats
pant when they are anxious -- this makes sense, being introduced
to my bunch would cause anxiety in anyone.
If Charlie is still panting when the weather turns cooler I will
address the problem again. My guess is7 he won't.

3872.2 | could be important - see the vet, please | TYGON::WILDE | Ask yourself..am I a happy cow? | Mon Aug 06 1990 12:48 | 7 |
| I don't want to alarm you, but this CAN sometimes be a symptom of serious
health problems. It probably isn't, BUT COULD BE, a sign of asthma (if
left untreated this can lead to heart problems) or a sign of heart problems.
Please take the kitten to the vet and get it thoroughly checked.

| My sister has a female cat we call "cranky Jordon" she is about
6 years old. This cat is real cranky..she will actually walk up
to you like she wants attention and when you go to pet her
or talk to her she growls, pants, snorts..etc. She will actually
stay there to be petted, but continues to pant and snort.
I truly believe she does this because she is a bit nervous and not
too sure what you will do with her. She has been to the Dr.s and
is in good health. My guess is it's just part of her personality...
she is a very cranky kitty!!
My suggestion is to keep a close eye on her to determine when she
does this...you might have a nervous cat.
Sandy (Tamba, Poco, and Barkley...mom why is Jordon so cranky)

Thanks for the responses. Beau has an appointment for next week.
I talked to the Vet today and he doesn't think there is a problem.
I think he wanervous about being outside because he wouldn't leave
my side while we we out. Maybe the breeze scared him? I've been
watching him vcarefully and haven't seen him pant at all in the
last 24 hrs. Regardless, he'll get checked out next week!

| Is the panting obviously panting? That is, does he make panting sounds,
or does he just open his mouth and kind of stick his tongue out just a
little?
The reason I ask is because if it's the second case, then he may not be
panting at all. Cats have an organ on the roof of their mouths that is
somehow used with their sense of smell. When they really really really
want to smell something, they open their mouths, and the scent washes
in and over (or whatever) that organ.
I've seen my cats do it, when there is a really rich and unusual scent
in the the air -- they just open their mouths (with or without tongues
sticking out), breathe in really deeply, and kind of half-close their
eyes . . .

| My kitten pants like crazy when I really get him going. Right Cindy?!
Remember when you brought over the sparklers? He still pants when
I'm done playing with him.
