3865.0. "Introducing Puffer Nutter Jr." by HAMBND::CHAVIS (WA1W not W1AW) Thu Aug 02 1990 12:10

After the loss of our cat Puffer last june, our home has been sad. I set
out recently to find a recplacment for Puffer. Puffer was a british odd
eye shorthair. After calling about 50 breeders I located a kitten of this
variety. Last night I picked up Puffer Nutter Jr. at Worcester air port
from a flight from Pittsburg. After spending a couple of minutes with
Puffer Jr. I realized how much he was like the original puffer. I not
sure if mannerisms of animals are characterisitic of a particular breed
but It seems like he may fit the role and impression that puffer left us
with when he passed on in june.

At this point Sphinx, Faroe, Tut, and Rex are in the process of smelling
growling and staring at Puffer Jr. In a couple of days things will
probally return to normal. It has been our experience that the cats will
accept a kitten easier than a full grown cat (which puffer was...he was
never really accepted and led a loners life in our home).

I think that the replacement may have been a good idea...

Ira + Sphinx, Faroe, Tutie, Rex and baby Puffer

    As a breeder of Exotic Shorthairs, I can say that certain breeds do
    display certain characteristics. Also, more subtle characteristics can
    be seen within certain lines within a breed.

    For example....alot of the Cattyshack Exotics like to sleep with their
    feet sticking through the carrier bars when they ride in the car, or
    when their in a cage. This was one of Fire's traits, which I see in
    alot of my cats.

3865.3It's not always easy to replace!CSSE::CSTThu Aug 02 1990 14:216
    I'm so happy for you! You were able to find another kitty that is like
    your original Puffer. That is not always easy to do! You should have
    some fun learning about the new one's little differences and
    remembering the dear old traits.

    I really DO love that name!!

    re: similar traits - I wonder if that has anything to do with why
    Dundee is very quick to accept Costa folds but resistent to any
    other cat. Hmm... no, strike that... Bonnie hisses at EVERYBODY,
    especially the kittens.
      Another theory bites the dust.
