3856.0. "Could this be lost Cam?" by WFOV11::HILLS () Tue Jul 31 1990 16:46

Please read note 3782.11. Please help Sandy in determining if this
is Cam? I posted a new note here, so maybe someone could help Sandy.

What an awful thing to happen wondering and wondering if this could
possibly be the loved Cam or not.

    Please help.

    Sincerely,
    A concerned feliner - Denise.

    Sandy;

    	Hope this will help :

    	1. How to get close to the cat.
You could try giving him/her catnip. Some cats really get zonked
out on catnip. Also, is there a favorite toy, like a bell or brush
that CAM used to love? You could bring that.

    	2. How long is a cats memory?
I had a cat from the time I was 2 1/2 years old. When I went away
to college, I'd be gone for 4 months at a time. Everytime I came home,
    	Snoopy remembered me.
Also, my mother-in-law takes care of my cats when I go away. They
may not see her for 2 months, but they still remember her.

The only difference that I can think of would be if something
really traumatic had happened, then maybe CAM wouyld lose his
    	memory.

Perhaps you could sort-of trap the cat in a laundry basket or a
    	room?
You know, come to think of it, once my cat, Lady, fell out of our
window. (only a 3 foot drop) But she's an indoor cat and she was
very upset running back and forth on our deck which connects 6
townhouses. She was jumping at everyone's windows trying to get
back in. Then my husband and I found her and she didn't recognize
us. Actually she ran away from us. So maybe it could be your cat
    	is it's upset.

    	I'm sorry I can't help you more!

    YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!

I responded to 3782 when I should have put it here!
I don't know how to move it to here, either. I think it was .14
    The gist is....
Your cat can be so frightened & confused that he wouldn't
recognize someone he knows. (& hunger & being dirty can change
    his looks drastically))
    Fear does this sometimes.

3856.4No progress yet!!WILLEE::MERRITTWed Aug 01 1990 17:1926
Thank you so much for responding. It is so hard to go through
something like this. To think that your kitty doesn't recognize you
at all makes you wonder what the poor thing has been through in
the last month. Hopefully it is CAM and we can bring him home soon
and spoil him rotten. Beleive me he would be spoiled...

Well we went back up the lady's house again last night because my
nephew (who loves this cat dearly) insisted that he could tell if
it was CAM no matter how far away the cat was. Well as they got
there the cat had already ate and was strolling back into the woods
so he didn't get a good look at him.

This little old lady is sooo sweeet...she invites us in, gives us
veggies from her garden, and keeps trying to get the kitty to come
in the house. She says she is getting closer and closer to him
everyday. She can atleast stand on the porch while he eats....and
when she talks to him he meows! That is progress considering he
use to smell you and dart away. She insists she will get him in
her house by the end of the week. Of not we then try your suggestion
    with a Have-a-Heart Trap. Boy I hope it's him!!!!

If it is him....will he ever be the same CAM! He use to get along
so well with people and his kitty brothers at home. He looks so wild
    right now!!

Sandy (Poco, Barkley and Tamba ....I want my brother!!)
