| RE: the Emmet Kelly clowns
I also have quite a collection of the emmet Kelly clowns. best thing
to do is to put them into a china cabinet or a curio (MAJOR sp?) closet.
The kids can't get at them that way.

| I think some of us are a little disappointed that a dog would be
brought to the humane society, and then immediately replaced with two
kittens who can be just as "distructive".
We are feline lovers here, but I think most of us value all animals
equally. We probably have a pretty good idea what will happen to the
dog.

| I just want to add that it also was your choice of words in .0:
"got rid of a hellion of a Beagle"
Then a snap decision was made to get a kitten.
And what happens if these kittens turn out to be hellions (which a lot
of kittens often are!)? Do they go to the pound too?
That was my first thought.

| I'm with you, Baldwin.
I am appalled that so-called "animal lovers" can be so viscious
to human-type animals. I've seen it happen again and again in
this file and it makes me heartsick to see you guys hurt people
like this. "judge not lest ye be judged" and all that. (Can't
believe this devout atheist is quoting the bible ;-)) Making
snap judgements based on limited information is uncool in
itself. And hurting people like this is uncool, no matter how
justified you may feel in your opinions. I now fully expect
a vitriolic barrage directed at me, but trust me, I will turn
a deaf ear to all your excuses and rationalizations, including
your holier-than-thou "I've done so much for the poor kitties
of the world and I'm tired of hearing about more cruelty" etc.
This was cruel, and there is no adequate excuse.

| I was writing my note before .16 was posted, but I think if I had read it
I might have written it anyway. The damage has been done, and I think
something needed to be said.

3850.19 | I know I shouldn't try to explain my behavior... | ICS::GERRY | Home is where the Cat is | Wed Aug 01 1990 12:36 | 23 |
| I know that maybe I shouldn't add another reply here, but, since some
of us are being accused of being cruel and nasty, I think it's
necessary.
And, since now, the evidence of the original note is gone, it does make
our actions appear questionable.
In the original note, there was no information given to us about any
efforts on the part of .0 to deal with the problem, or try to find it a
suitable home. In fact the wording was such that it sounded like the
poor dog was basically "dumped". And, in fact, even the response in .2
eluded to the fact that basically the 2 kittens were going to be just
as bad as the "hellion of a dog" that was this person was "rid of".
I'm sorry if we misinterpreted you....when one is going to enter this
type of note, it might be a good idea to choose your wording carefully
so it can not be misinterpreted.
Since this is kitten and puppy season, the chance of the dog actually
finding a new home is slight, especially if he's as bad as you say.

| hank you for your concerend recommendation that any response that you
feel had no right to be in here should be deleted based on your
opinion that people should feel their sincere concern was
questionable.
I however, decline your recommendation. I care about animals and
their fate and my concern is not "questionable"

3850.22 | Contact the "breeder".... | ICS::GERRY | Home is where the Cat is | Wed Aug 01 1990 14:01 | 14 |
| Also, .0...
Have you considered contacting the person you got the beagle from??? I
know if this was one of my kittens (I'm a breeder) that I had sold, I
would want to take it back. I'ld be devestated to know that someone
had brought one of my babies to a shelter. I feel responsible for each
kitten, even after it's been sold.
I also agree with .21....My concern was not "questionable" either.
I'm not really sure you've actually considered the dogs eventual fate.

3850.26 | Please..... | DEMON::MURPHY | | Wed Aug 01 1990 14:45 | 36 |
| I really wish this didn't happen and only because of miswording the base
note too. One of the important things to remember is that you did try
to place the dog even if it was a problem to you and your family, and
when you couldn't you did bring her to a shelter. So many people are
not that humane and abandon their pets which is far worse in my opinion
than bringing them to a shelter.
Please let's all cool down a bit and remember we're in Feline Notes
where we've all been so helpful and compassionate. One of the few pet
files that I've felt like participating in due to so many
misunderstandings in others. No more name calling; we're all concerned
about the proper care of our pets and just need to choose our wording
more carefully.

re-.24
Okay, then I'll re-state my request to the Mods that this entire
topic be either write-locked or deleted. I will not continually
justify every *()&&%^$$%#@ response I put in here, nor my actions
as to the animals in question. You have made your points, and I
have even graciously admitted that my original statement in the
basenote was incorrectly worded as to the situation. Now, I have
to deal with these childish and Neanderthalic ramblings which truly
belong in either MOANS or SOAPBOX. If you absolutely *must* have
the last word on the subject...fine. But you're carrying on a dead
issue, because I hereby delete and withdraw any and all repsonses
to this topic. Thanks to all for ruining what started out with the
best of intentions (though worded improperly) to be a "nice story"
and turning it into a self-righteous and over-opinionated squabble
over the rights of animal and man!
