3837.0. "Goodbye dear Fred :'{" by CSSE::CST () Fri Jul 27 1990 10:17

I need to share this ith you. Our little Freddie died last nite.
Freddie was our Lutino cockatiel that we have had for perhaps five
years. My husband was given her after her original owner had died and
no one could or wanted to take proper care of her. She became bald
because of her loss. When I met my husband and moved in she became
attached to me and got back all of her feathers and once again was
beautiful. Finally she allowed me to handle her and care for her beak
    and claws.

Last year we came home after and Easter visit to find her trembling,
almost like Parkinson disease. SHe also would bleed profusely for no
apparent reason. The cats and she got along well (not free together
    though).

Anyway, she has gone on like this for the past year and I have had
several times when I thought she would die but never did. Last nite I
wet to the cage when I heard Nikki screaming. I comforted him and did
not see Freddie on the floor. I am not even sure if she was dead at
    that time.

My husband came home later and I told him about the screaming so he
went and checked the cage. There was poor Fred on the floor with her
feet in the air. I put her in a shoe box with some pretty paper and we
will bury her today. I think Stinky knew what happened as he was very
attentive to me after. He gets very upset when I cry. I honestly
believe that cats are very sensitive to human emotions. Especially the
    ones you try to hide.
Karen, Ruby, Stinky, Wing, Bibi, Nikki, Georgio and Lucy minus Freddie.

I'm so sorry for your loss of Freddy. He sounded like a beautiful
bird. Yes, I too feel animals sense our emotions and react to
    	them.

    	Again my condolence.

Sorry for you and for Freddie, sounds like he's had some times in
his little bird life. I lost 2 parakeets when I was real young. The
first one I just woke up and found in the same position as you found
Freddie, the other broke his neck.
The kitties and rest of your menagerie will always be there for your
    comfort though.

Just read about Freddie. Sorry to hear about your loss.

We, too, have a cockatiel which we are very attached to. She's the sweetest
bird with the best disposition! Flew into our yard one spring. We
were so lucky our cat, the-late-orange George, didn't find her first!
My husband liked 'Smokey', the cockatiel so much he bought her a
lovely wrought iron Victorian cage. (Cat proof!)

Your note reminded me to pay special attention to my birds tonight.
    Our thoughts are with you.
