| Has he tried Seldane? I also recollect someone in this file saying that
a newer better medication was due out in a few months -- does anyone
recall this?
This must be awful for you.

| Hismanal (not sure how to spell it) is what Karen is talking about, and
it has been available for several months (I've been on it for two
months). I'm not allergic to cats but it sure clears up the pollen
problem.
You might want to have your husband ask his doctor about clinical
immunology (it can be expensive and insurance covers it, but most
doctors are reluctant to mention it because of the cost).

3821.3 | the plain facts are not pleasant | IOWAIT::WILDE | Ask yourself..am I a happy cow? | Tue Jul 24 1990 18:26 | 8 |
| It is going to be extremely difficult finding a home for an adult cat
at the height of kitten season....I'd guess impossible in some areas.
If your husband can find some way to survive with the cat, it would
be best. It's not very likely you will find a home for her. You
might try contacting no-kill shelters in your area and asking for
referrals, ask your local vets to post an add in their offices...and
be patient.

3821.4 | A new shampoo...? | WLDWST::K_GARRISON | Vox populi | Tue Jul 24 1990 18:51 | 12 |
| I have heard recently heard of a new cat shampoo that must be used
monthly that eliminates whatever it is in a cat's coat that triggers
allergies. The woman who told me about it works for an animal
placement service here in California. I'll try to reach her to get
more info, find out if the product is real. If it is, I'll send you
the name and possibly the distributor.
Pending this, I hope that you can work something out for your kitty.
Have you thought about hunting for a foster home until a permanent one
can be found? Offer to pay a fee, etc.?

| Thanks....I hadn't thought about kitten season. I think we'll just
stick it out and be patient.

| You might find that his allergy subsides with time. Jack and I are
both allergic to cats - Jack much more so - and when we first bring
in a new cat his allergies will act up - he takes seldane and slo-bid
twice a day, year round - but after several weeks, the allergies abate
and he can tolerate the cats as long as he takes his medication.
Our current cat counts is 5 pets, 2 breeders, 1 (temporary) stud male
and 7 kittens. And I DON't have a separate cattery. The kittens
live in a second bedroom referred to as "Halie's room". (Halie is the
mommy)
Good luck
