Note 484.0 xneko: a cute game of cat and mouse 4 replies

Annoucing xneko, yet another chase the mouse diversion with good graphics.

I got a copy of this from a Japanese Colleague and it was written by
Masayuki Koba. The only problem is that all of the comments are in Japanese.

Rather than post the souce (which includes 36 bitmaps) I will post a pointer to
the sources, a backup saveset and the VMS and RISC Ultrix executables.

The files are in (source, executables and savesets):

$PROJ1:[OOTB.X.XNEKO]

The bitmaps are in:

$PROJ1:[OOTB.X.XNEKO.BITMAPS]

Enjoy,

Neal

   This is exactly the error message that you will get if you have via defined
   as a logical (pointing to something else). Try $show log via or copy
   _via::$proj1:[ootb.x.xneko] instead. the leading underscore _ suppresses
   logical translation.

    	Dave, this is ADORABLE!!!!! Has anyone figured out how to get
    	him to do more than just chase the mouse???

    re .1

    Hey, it does most of what a three dimensional cat does - it chases a
    mouse, and then it sleeps.

    Now if only I could get it to stop peeing on my keyboard!

    Great program!

3819.4Assistance needed here!CSSE::CSTWed Jul 25 1990 15:177
    Please help, I don't understand how to do this. I can get help from my
    system person, but she isn't sure either. Will you explain in a little
    simpler detail for those of us who don't have the knowledge yet?!

    Dying to see this,

3819.5I've done this a few times :^}SANDY::FRASERNever try to outstubborn a cat.Wed Jul 25 1990 15:3127
	First off, you need a decwindows terminal or a workstation. This
	particular executable runs ok on VMS V5.3+ - haven't tried it on
	previous versions.

	Create a subdirectory like [.xneko], set default to it, and copy
	all the files you need from smurf::usera:[games.xneko] to that
	directory (I've cut out all the source files).

	Then, if the files are located on your workstation, define a
	symbol to call up the image, i.e.

	$ xneko :== $disk:[dir.xneko]xneko

	. . . and then type 'xneko' at your DCL prompt.

	If the files live on a lab system, and you want to see it on your
	local workstation, make sure you allow the lab system to access
	your workstation (via the Customize Security pull down in your
	session manager). Set host to the lab system, and when you're
	logged in, set the display to your local node, like:

	$ set display/create/node=yourws

	Then define the symbol as above and continue.

    SANDY::FRAZER take note...

    Its possible to get XNEKO to work as your PAUSE screen. After a few
    seconds, the mouse "teleports" somewhere else and the cat wakes up and
    chases after it. (I believe this has happened since yesterday, so you
    will probably need new copies of the kit).

    For full details, I suggest you read note 484.* in the conference
    ELKTRA::DW_EXAMPLES, because the location of the software may have
    moved too. I'm running someone elses copy.

    	Thanks, Dave - I've copied over something called jhneko
    	from bulova::, and the word is that this can be used in
    	your pause screen, so I'll be giving it a try. SANDY::
    	is being transformed to a *real* workstation today (3500),
    	so I won't be able to try it for a bit.

3819.9on mac, too!CSCOA3::MCFARLAND_Dbo knows windows 3.0...?Fri Jul 27 1990 19:246
    i have this prog on my macintosh. the mousie can be changed to a
    birdie or a fishie. and you can change the speed at which the cat
    runs. i can't wait to see this on VMS...
