3751.1 | not common, but... | FORTSC::WILDE | Ask yourself..am I a happy cow? | Wed Jun 27 1990 11:03 | 6 |
| Sometimes not all the tissue is removed, either due to an abnormality
of the cat's reproductive system in which things aren't in the right
place, or because the vet missed something. At any rate, the hormone
"signal" seems to be occurring and if it happens again/or even continues,
I'd see the vet again - cats can get into a continuous cycle that can
be real uncomfortable for them.

| Yes, IF she had already been cycling before being spayed. She may
continue to do this for 'some' months. Malenka, Katenka's sister,
was spayed while she was in heat, and a year later, I can still
tell when she is cycling, even tho it's must less severe. It
will slow down as time passes.
What color Brit? Will she show her in the alter class? Brits
are nice !!

| Elaine,
Don't you remember Seasea?? She's the cream tabby Brittish that I was
showing for a while last year. Carrie may show her in a couple of
shows this year.
Thanks for the quick answers. I have never heard of this before. I
called the vet and he said that he had never heard of it before,
either. I DON'T have a lot of confidence in this vet!! She needed to
be spayed right away and my vet wasn't available.
If she keeps going into season, should I bring her back to the vet
again??

| oh YEAH, I do remember - a cutie!!! Yup, it's a real pain - I'm
not sure whether they just don't get all the ovaries and leave a
tiny piece or whatever, but even my 11-year old spay Sasha, seal
point siamese, will still let me know a bit when it's that time.
sigh, $$$$ - it DOES get better !

3751.5 | incomplete spay a possibility | STAR::BARTH | | Wed Jun 27 1990 13:05 | 7 |
| Yes, it's possible for an incomplete spay to occur. I would consult
another vet, and if it is an incomplete spay, she will have to be
operated on again to remove the remaining tissue. Hopefully it's
as Jo (?) said and her hormones are just still acting up.
Good luck,
Karen.

| Is your friend knowledgable enough to be sure that
the cat isn't just "kneading" or somesuch?

| Hi Karen,
She is somewhat knowledgable, and from what she has explained to me, it
does sound like she's in heat. It's really weird!!

| It seems that if she is still cycling after being spayed, then the
vet probably left something behind. If she had to be spayed in
a hurry, is it possible that she had pyometra or something? This
could complicate things to the point that the vet may have missed
something. I would take her back to the same vet, and have him
to an exploratory, at his expense of course. Don't know if he will
go for that, but it is worth a try. If something was left behind,
he is the one that left it.
I have never had any experiences with cats that cycled after spaying
that wasn't related to something being left behind.

| I dunno. If the vet messed up once, I would not be inclined to
go back to him again, unless he's a vet you have confidence in,
and it doesn't sound like that's the case here. Better to spend some
money than to have a second botched operation.

| Sometimes a spay can get very complicated, especially if it is a
case of the cat having pyo, or being in season at the time. I wouldn't
totally write off a vet for leaving something behind, but if you
know that he isn't any good, then maybe you should.

Nor would I have the surgery repeated. Just my opinion, but the
symptoms do subside in time.

| If the vet made a mistake then s/he should know about it and at
least have the opportunity to learn from it.
