| Really pleased to hear that Pookie adjusted so quickly.
When we had Charlotte staying with us temporarily (for a week) there were very
few signs of the three of them ever getting along. Would you say that the
breakthrough came in the second week? Can you put your finger on how it
happened?
We've had a golden retriever staying with us for the past week, and now (after
1 week) they will both go up and sniff her, very curiously. They have also
taken a real liking to her basket, must to her disgust (although not while she
is in it, of course!). This is compared to the first day where they
refused to be in the house when she was around - I can't get over how
they adjust so quickly. I'm just very curious to find out whether they will
ever cuddle up with each other like in the 'Real Fire' advert!
It's almost as though they prefer having a dog introduced, rather than another
cat (especially a kitten!).

Lisa,
Glad to hear the good news! It's hard to predict how any cat will
react, even cats you think you know! Good luck on the leash training.
My Panther took to it very well. What I did was let her wear her
harness in the house until she was used to it. Then attached the lead
(leash) and brought her outside. The trick is to just go where the cat
wants to go the first few times. (Unless of course you won't fit!!!)
When the cat is more familiar with the whole arrangement, then you can
gently but firmly guide them where you want them to go, or more to the
point, keep them from going where you don't want them to go!! :-D
Panthers favorite is rolling in the grass in the sun, and chasing any
butterfly or moth that she can find (with me in tow!)

3735.3 | Am I doing something wrong ? | XNOGOV::LISA | | Tue Jun 26 1990 06:29 | 22 |
| I think the "friendliness" breakthrough came when Pookie was asleep
in her beanbag and we put Rolf next to her when he was also asleep.
When Pookie woke up, she just started to wash his face! That was it -
they have been firm friends ever since. It was just too easy - I am
still expecting fur to fly sometime soon;-) We put them together
on the bean bag exactly 1 week after Rolf arrived.
Rolf does not like the harness at all. He bites and chews it and
fights with it! We will keep trying until he gets used to it or the
harness falls apart! We never leave it on when we are not with him
in case he gets himself into a tangle.
We have left them together for the first time today. For Rolfs first
week I worked at home. For the second week Rob was at home. This is
their first week alone together. I am a bit worried!
Is it really this easy or have I missed something?!?!?!?!?!

| It can be that easy ! Especially if you try to be relaxed about it.
If you are uptight, they will sense it - if you just IGNORE them,
pretty much no matter what they are up to, like they are not even
in the house at all, they will probably, just go about their
business of being cats !! Now, it can be a lot harder, as many
folks here know, but sometimes it just happens when you least
expect it !

3735.5 | Poor Pookie ... | XNOGOV::LISA | | Mon Jul 02 1990 06:16 | 14 |
| Yup - I thought it was too easy! Pookie has had chronic diarrhoea since
last Thursday. Her third eyelid had been visible since Friday and when
the diarrhoea started, it was off to the vet. He diagnosed severe worms
- not really surprising since she catches so many things and eats them!
We have kept her in despite the fact that the run isn't ready yet. She
is miserable. Her bottom is bright red and looks very sore. Its a good
thing that we've got a covered litter tray!!
Back to the vet tonight. Rolf comes along for the ride. They travel
much better together. Pookie hates going to the vet. This is the third
time within a week :-(

3735.6 | did you say covered litter tray? | IOSG::THOMPSONR | Nostalgia isn't what it used to be | Fri Jul 13 1990 14:02 | 17 |
| Lisa,
Digressing a bit - but where can I get a covered litter tray from
around Reading? How do they work exactly?
After a few experiences of waking up from Sophie's meows to find a
half-dead frog/bird on the dining room carpet at 4:30 am, I am beginning
to think that keeping Henri and Sophie IN at night with a litter tray is
probably a good idea!!

You can get a covered litter tray in the pet shop near Jacksons
corner. All it is, is a litter tray with a top on it. Sort of like a
plant propogator with a hole in the side. I actually got mine from
the pet centre near Botley (Southampton). They are much cheaper there
and much better quality. They also sell cat litter for 2.99 (its 3.59
in Savacentre). Its worth a vist - they've got so much cat stuff there.
I am ordering my cat run from there.
I'll be getting some pics of Rolf tomorrow if you're interested ;-)

PS Pookie *STILL* has diarrhoea :-(
