3714.0. "Window seats" by RATTLE::OLEARY () Fri Jun 15 1990 10:49

I have a question about window seats for cats. My husband and I are in
the process of painting the woodwork in our house. Already, Dusty has
jumped up on the first painted windowsill and there are marks in the
finish. Needless to say, hubby was not happy. The thing is, Dusty has
a couple of windows that he loves to sit in. I wouldn't have a chance
at keeping him off the sills if I tried, but I want to protect the
painted woodwork. Has anyone used those funny looking window seats for
cats? Or does anyone have another suggestion?

    Thanks.

My mother and I put one of those window seats up in her window for the
cat to sit on. Its great! Its covered with carpet....and Mojo sits up
there and looks out the window and sleeps. It was real easy to install
too. I think its a great idea and inexpensive. I think she ordered it
from a catalog. I would recomend getting one.

Window seats for cats sound super... my two Korats love to sit
at the windows and generally knock things off in the process...
Can someone describe what these look like and how they fit?

	thanks

We have two windows in which our cats like to "perch". In summer, when
the windows are open, there is plenty of room. When the windows must be
closed, however, we use two commercial "window seats" in each window to
provide comfortable accommodation. Each seat is simply a rigid board
about 12"x14" with a pair of metal cleats which hang on the sill. A
metal arm underneath with a rubber tip provides support against the
wall. The board has a layer of thin foam cushion and a removable cloth
cover. As there is no permanent attachment, they can be easily
dislodged by a jumping cat unless the window is closed against the
    cleats.

We got ours thru the Miles Kimball catalog, and cost, I think, about
    $7 each.

My cats sit on window sills, and the sills get pretty grubby. I've
found that Soft Scrub cleanser is just about perfect in cleaning
the sills so that they are as good as new. If the "marks" are
claw marks, I wonder if your cats have a close jumping off place nearby
to get to the sills, or are they making a great leap and pulling
    themselves up by their claws....

same here. when we moved into the new house, i put the 6-ft cat condo
in front of the window in the cat's room. they like it, but prefer
sitting on the floor in front of the sliding glass door. of course,
that door looks out the back of the house, and there's more action out
there than out front. (we don't have any houses across the street
    yet...)
