3707.0. "WEST COAST FELINER PARTY???" by SANFAN::BALZERMA () Wed Jun 13 1990 16:16

Is there any interest out there for a 2nd Annual West Coast Feliner
party? I missed it last year due to sick kitties. It certainly
sounded like everyone who attended a great time! Any takers???

All kidding aside, it sounds like a wonderful idea. Does this happen

Let's choose a restaurant at which we can meet for dinner. Perhaps on
a Friday evening or even Sunday evening when it will be reasonable for
people to travel and have a nice dinner. I suggest we choose a place
in Sunnyvale/Santa Clara as the closest to centrally located. It
will be a drive for most of us, but easier than anyone giving a party.

Bring photos! I need at least 2 weeks warning to get film, take shots,
and get the photos developed. Wait until you see Jo's photos of Moody!!!
He's perfectly georgeous!

3707.7sounds good to me!SANFAN::BALZERMAMon Jun 18 1990 20:209

I think dinner is a GREAT idea! Traffic from the City is a little
crazy on a Friday evening, so my vote is for a Saturday or Sunday
evening. Other than July 13-28 (DECworld & vacation) I'll adjust
    my schedule accordingly.

okay, here's the deal. I will volunteer to coordinate the reservations,
etc. and I will scout out some likely restuarants for the dinner and
everyone can vote on the choices. My VMS mailing address is:

I suggest we plan for end of july - 4th is coming up too soon to fit
into the window between now and DECWORLD. I also suggest we go
Chinese (unless there are any Chinese food haters out there) and I
know a place just off 280 so it would be reasonably easy to find....
and it is chinese. The house of the Eight Immortals on Winchester,
just off Steven's Creek and the 280 access.

Of course, we could also opt for Italian food and try "Two Guys from
Italy" in Mt. View or I think the Spaghetti Factory in downtown
San Jose is still open (not expensive, great pasta sauces - spaghetti
is the only menu option however).

so, let me know.

I am all for having it in a restaurant, but my weekends at the end
of July are all tied up with shows. Well, actually, I think I may
have the 21-22 off. I know that the 14-15 is Santa Barbara and
    the 29th is San Rafael.

Are we in for Chinese or we you prefer some other cuisine....I vote AGAINST
Japanese - cannot stand to watch people eat raw fish - sorry about that.
I know the Magic Pan provides just good food, if you all would prefer...

Ummmmm, I think that maybe you guys out to just pick a good day
for you and if I can make it I will. I hate to have you keep shifting
the date because of me. The only weekend that I can do it in August
is the 18th or 19th. August is a heavy month for me, we have the
all night show, then Marlene and Bailey's show debut, and then the
    big Birman show in Ohio.

Jo, some Holiday Inn's have a weekend rate special called a GREAT RATE.

If you call 800-HOLIDAY, you can check to see if the hotel you are
going stay at is participating in that rate for the weekend you
want to reserve. Sometimes it's as low as $39/night or $49/night
or $59/night. Nice deal - check it out !!

Being in CA could make a difference - when you have a chance, check
    and let us know - it's a real $$$saver !!

Well, I will give it a try for the Santa Barbara show and see what
they can do for a rate.

Some Inns participate some don't. Another deal to check for at
'any' hotel, is to ask if they have a 'weekend special' rate.
I always ask for a weekend rate or great rate, etc. before I
say that I'm with the cat show, to see if their special or
great rate is lower than the cat show rate. Some times the
special or weekend rate or great rate has been LOWER than the
cat show rate, which really irritates me!

    Good Luck!

3707.30Oh please, oh please comeWR2FOR::CORDESBRO_JOset home/cat_max=infinityThu Jun 28 1990 13:2024
Medina is about 20 minutes out of Cleveland. Fly into
Cleveland-Hopkins airport. When you send in your entry, you can
note your arrival time and see if the show committee can pick you
up. They always make arrangements to pick up us Birman-types, so
I am sure that they can pick you up too. From thursday thru friday
night, there is almost always someone at the airport waiting for
arriving Birmans. The entry clerk is a very good friend of mine,
so tell her that your my buddy and see if it helps. :^)

Medina is not by invitation only, but it fills early, so be sure
and enter early. Our closing date is usually early in August, but
we often fill by late July. SCBF, Sacred Cat of Burma Fanciers
is the sponsoring club. The show is held under the auspices of
CFA. There will be six judges, Koepp (AB), St. Georges (AB), Doernberg
(AB), L. Jensen (AB), Jones (LH/SH), and Powell (LH/SH). Call Julie
    at (517)772-0278 for a flyer.

The hotel that the Birman folks are staying at is the Knights Inn
in Medina. Call for a reservation right away if you plan to go.
The Birman types reserve their rooms early and the place has been
known to fill up. Never fear though, there are other hotels in
Medina, all in about the $35 range.

directions to the 'house of the 8 immortals' restaurant:

FROM SAN FRANCISCO AND POINTS NORTH:

280 S. to Winchester Blvd. exit. Take exit and cross over the
freeway, making a left turn. The restaurant will be on your left just
past the Century theaters complex. The distance is very short...maybe
2 - 3 city blocks. If you get to Stevens Creek, you've gone too far.

FROM POINTS SOUTH:

You can take the 280 N. to Winchester Blvd. - make a right turn onto
Winchester and the restaurant in on the left just past the theaters
complex.

You can also take 101 N. to 17 S. (880) to the Stevens Creek exit. Turn
right onto Stevens Creek, moving immediately into the left lane (the exit
off of 880 allows for this movement if you stay in the left lane of
the exit ramp). Go to winchester Blvd. and turn left (2 lights). The
restaurant is on the right side, just before the Century theaters, approx.
1 block from the intersection.

Is there anyone coming to the west coast party who wants some free
Everclean litter? My guys can't use it because it aggravates Sweetie
respiratory condition, so I've got 4 double jugs to give away.
I'll divy (sp?) it up if more than one person wants it.

Gee, why couldn't I be on the West Coast.

I've recently started using Everclean for my whole males.....what a
difference when you can actually remove the source of the odor from the
    box.

Jo, you might want to take Karen up on this offer and try it for
Kalliste. (That is your boy, right!?)

I should probably say that Everclean is one of the new "sand"
litters that clumps around moisture, so you remove the clumps
from the box. Unfortunately, there is a very fine dust apparently
associated with it, and while it doesn't bother H or LB, it
    does bother Sweetie.

    Karen,

At Cin's suggestion I would like to try the everclean for my two
whole males. Is one jug enough to split between two boxes, or do
you need two. If others want it too, I will just ask for one jug.

3707.57I haven't changed his box in over 2 months!ICS::GERRYHome is where the Cat isTue Jul 24 1990 16:5315
    Jo,

I started my first box with about 1 1/2 gallons. But, I use DEEP
    boxes!

Really does keep the odor down, and the cost really isn't any higher
than regular. An added bonus, is that you really get a good idea on
how much the cat urinates. Therefore, you could spot a blockage
    problem much quicker.

Now, on the minus side....DWeeBs loved the stuff, and for about the
first two days, he thought it was great fun to play in!

    Jo,

I took me about a single jug and a half to fill one large box. What I
have are 4 double jugs. No one else has spoken up and I have these sitting
in my trunk to bring to the party, so you can have as many as you like.
Any left over, I'll offer around at work.

    Karen,

Thanks very much. I like the idea of being able to monitor urination,
especially since Kalliste has had a bout of cystitis. This might
just be the answer to all his problems.

Jo, I switched from the plain Everclean to Everclean MC....MC is for
Multi Cat. It worked slightly better than the original version, and
    was the same price.

Just figured I'ld let you for when your re-adding to the box.

*** WEST COAST FELINERS REMINDER ***
		    ****************************
	  	    ****************************

A reminder of the delightful evening ahead of you:

    Occasion: West Coast Feliners Dinner

    Date: Saturday, August 18th

    Time: 7:00 p.m.

Place: House of 8 Immortals Restaurant,
Next to Century Theatre Complex and
very close to Winchester Mystery House,
	       Santa Clara, Ca.

	reservations in the name WILDE

directions to the 'house of the 8 immortals' restaurant:

FROM SAN FRANCISCO AND POINTS NORTH:

101 S. to 17 S. (880 S.) to Santa Cruz. Take the Steven's Creek Exit
and stay in the left lane on the exit ramp. Turn right onto Steven's
Creek, moving into the left-most lane. Either 2 or 3 lights down is
Winchester Blvd. Turn left. The restaurant is on the right hand side
just before you get to the Century movie theatre complex.

				- OR -

280 S. to "Winchester Mystery House" exit -- follow the signs. I think
the exit is Meridian. I know I can get ON the freeway from Winchester,
but there is some doubt whether you can get OFF directly onto
Winchester. If you get to the Winchester Mystery House, the restaurant
is on the same side of the street on the other side of the Century
Theatre Complex. If you get to Stevens Creek, you've gone too far.
The restaurant is between 280 and Steven's Creek, on Winchester Blvd.

FROM POINTS SOUTH:

You can take the 280 N. to Winchester Blvd. - make a right turn onto
Winchester and the restaurant in on the left just past the theaters
complex.

101 N. to 17 S. (880 S.) to Santa Cruz. Take the Steven's Creek Exit
and stay in the left lane on the exit ramp. Turn right onto Steven's
Creek, moving into the left-most lane. Either 2 or 3 lights down is
Winchester Blvd. Turn left. The restaurant is on the right hand side
just before you get to the Century movie theatre complex. Approx. 1
city block from the intersection.

You can connect to Winchester Blvd off of San Tomas Expressway, just
next to the Rt 17/880 crossover. You stay on Winchester until you
cross 280. The restaurant is on the left, just past the Century
Theatre Complex.

There, now I think I've covered any possible options that may exist.
If you have need of directions from somewhere else, let me know and
I will try and get them for you. Use your maps. I'll be at the
restaurant at 7:00 P.M. sharp and anyone who is prompt will have time
to join me in a pre-dinner cocktail.

Bring pictures, bring your "oohs" and "ahhhs" for everyone elses
pictures.

yes....I think we had a very successful party...which, I might add, may have
had fewer guests than the east coast party, but we more than made up for it
in laughter, "oohs" and "aahs" over the family cats/kittens, and general
good cheer. Dessert was definitely a perfect topper to the evening...
I'll eat again sometime in September.

I learned that the gang of four must have planted a kitty microphone on me
somewhere, though...I bragged about how cooperative they all were for baths
and grooming at the dinner...but Sunday, when the weekly grooming and toe
nail clipping came around they were all perfect little "sh*ts...Hannah even
hissed at me and "threatened" to bite...she didn't actually take a chunk
out of me or anything, but she let me know she COULD HAVE, if she had wanted
to. Sigh. I think I will have to sneak out next time.

I was also thoroughly "inspected" from head to foot...I think there was
suspicion of my cheating with other cats...but, being innocent, I was not
worried.
