3697.0. "Need volunteer info!" by SENIOR::YEATMAN (Every Rose has its Thorn!) Tue Jun 12 1990 12:31

    I am relatively new to this file but am finding it wonderful! I have
    learned so much from everyone and have come to realize that I want to
    volunteer my time to a Humane society. The problem I have is where? I
    called the Hopkinton Humane society and they were very interested but
    have not yet put a program together to train volunteers. I want to do
    something now.

    My question is does anyone know of a place where I could volunteer to
    help the animals. Does anyone else do that sort of thing and how do you
    like it? I would like to find somewhere close to where I live and work,
    preferably, Marlboro, Westboro, Framingham. any information anyone has
    would be appreciated.

    Thanks Lee

3697.1I am trying to do the same thing!NATASH::ANDERSONTue Jun 12 1990 14:1521
    Hi Lee.

    I live in Leominster and am calling for information regarding a shelter
    in Fitchburg (next city over).

    From what I have read in past notes - not only do the shelters/humane
    society's need volunteers to help physically, I think people who love
    animals (like all of us) can help in our own small way - right NOW.

    I spread the word about shelters - for people looking for pets! I
    plan on donating some old towels that I have - maybe donating $10.00
    worth of food a week, once a week going by to take pictures of the
    animals to post on bulletin boards at work, whatever!

    I am going to call Pat Brody (of the shelter I previously mentioned)
    and see what she has to say. To see how I can help TODAY!

    I'll let you know what her suggestions might be.

    	Bummer you're so far south! The humane society of Nashua
    	sure could use your help!

    	I hope you find one soon...

3697.3Bozler's Animal Shelter in Barre... MCIS5::MCDONOUGHTue Jun 12 1990 19:188
     FIf yuo're anywehre near Barre Mass, I'm sure ELaine Bosler could use
    help. Elaine used to be the Dog Officer in an adjoining town, but when
    she was ordered to destroy about 20 dogs and cats, she absolutely
    refused, resigned her job, took all the animals with her and opened a
    "no-kill" shelter in Barre. I THINK the name is "Bosler's Animal
    Shelter". She's been on more than one of the local TV stations..
