| Do you have one or two litter boxes? Reason why I ask is that a
friend of mine just went through something similar and tried everything
they could think of to get her to stop. Finally they added a second
litter box and that proved to be the solution. Now it seems that
they poop in one and pee in the other and I guess that's they way
that Frika wanted it otherwise she would urinate outside the box.
I want to add that they did take her in for a check up just to make
sure that the problem wasn't physical.

No, just one box which hasn't been a problem in the past. We're
going to try cleaning all around with vinegar/water and then
spraying with some odor remover. I'm hoping that it's just that
the smell was there and that's why she keeps going. Otherwise
it must be a urinary tract problem (hope not).

bob:
it could also be a bladder infection or crystals. you may want to get an
urinanalysis done to be sure.
i have tried "outright" to clean the rugs. it will smell worse
when you put it on the area, but after you blot it up, the smell
should be gone. you can find this in any pet store. they have all
different kinds, rug cleaner, order eliminator, etc.
i have gone thru the above with my male cat, magen and he has
bladder infection and is now on c/d dry and canned and he's
five years old.
let us know what the vet says.

| Sometimes the only symptom of a urinary tract problem is urinating
in the wrong places. Since FUS can be fatal if the cat gets completely
blocked, a prompt vet visit is in order.
The stuff to remove odors that I know about, Nature's Miracle, just
removes odors, it is not a repellent as well. Any pet store should
stock this of something similar. Try calling around.
NM does work on my hardwood floors.
