the 'not knowing' is terrible.
I will say a prayer and hope that all he did was wander a little
further than usual.
Please keep us posted!

| I'm sorry to hear about sneakers....I do have a suggestion. When
I took the stray GSD at NRO5 home last summer, I spent a day locating
the owner. I started calling the Northboro pound, and they suggested
calling hudson, who suggested calling marlboro, berlin....because
they don't always talk to each other. My last call to Berlin located
the owner, who lived a mile down the raod.
Good luck and I home he comes home.....Michele & Nippa

sheds, etc., in case Sneakers got locked in by mistake.
This happens VERY often!

No sign yet, Marilyn. I've been patrolling the neighborhood, went
door-to-door last night asking nearby neighbors, but no one's seen
him. I'm going to ring the local animal control officers today,
and I just pray that they haven't found a body. Posters come next.
Thanks for the encouragement, folks. I'll keep ya updated.

3582.8 | Any Vacant Houses Around? | MVDS02::LOCKRIDGE | Artificial Insanity | Wed May 09 1990 13:53 | 16 |
| Do you have any houses for sale in the area that are vacant? My
Wolfgang (Wolffie, Woo, Chubs, etc) disappeared about the same time last
year. As you said, the worst part was not knowing.
I had to leave on a trip to CA and the in evening of the day I left,
the friend that was taking care of my other cat called to say that
Wolffie returned. There is a house diagonally behind me that was
vacant. The basement window was broken, so he was able to get in but
not get out again. Later he took his "brother" with him and they BOTH
got locked in. When I got home, I went over and boarded up the window.
I know the heartbreak you are going through and the relief when Wolffie
came home. I hope you get that relief SOON!

3582.11 | Great News! | USEM::MCQUEENEY | Texas bound! | Thu May 10 1990 12:56 | 18 |
|
Just before midnight last night, a tired and haggard-looking
Sneakers came in through the cat entry in the front door. He ran
right to the food and water, and gulped down loads like there was
no tomorrow.
His normally beautiful lustrous coat was dingy and smelly, like
he had been stuck in someone's garage or car trunk. I brushed him
and cleaned him off a bit, and he started purring and slumped down
in my living room chair for a needed rest. Stayed there all night,
and was still in the same position when I got up this morning.
He followed me around the whole morning, and I patted him profusely.
Smoke and Nova went over to him periodically and nudged and licked
him. It's great to have the family together again!

P.S. Otis has a new thing now - when we are trying to get ready for
work in the morning (i.e. or _leaving him_) he plops himself in
the upstairs bathroom sink. I guess he thinks we won't leave if
we can't brush our teeth or wash our hands....he will not BUDGE!

re: homing devie - maybe we ought to contact LoJack!
Nancy DC
p.s. for those of you not from the New England area, LoJack is
a company that markets a homing device for automobiles. We have
one installed in the new Taurus. It allows the police to track
your stolen car and hopefully get it back before its damaged.
It works too!

3582.21 | Microchip implantation? | NWACES::KORGEN | | Fri May 11 1990 15:22 | 14 |
| I was reading (in the Boston Globe, I think) that you can
have some sort of microchip implanted in your pet to help
you find them when they are missing. 10,000 already in use
in the U.S., and 27 have led to finding a missing pet. Costs
less than $100. I don't know how many of the 10,000 pets
became lost after getting the implant.
I will try to remember to track the article down this weekend,
but my mind is a sieve on stuff like this. Anyone enterprising
could scan the Globe from this morning....

| re: .21 - there was an article in Cat Fancy about this a few years
ago. The Catch is that the pound/animal officer has to have the right
instrument to read the microchip and they have to have access to the
database that would hold the information about your pet.
Having said that, however, I think its still worth looking into. After
all, animal control officers aren't going to become part of this
system unless alot of us are using it.
Nancy DC
p.s. Let me know what else you find out.

3582.23 | K.C. Searcher | KOOZEE::PAULHUS | Chris @ MLO6B-2/T13 dtn 223-6871 | Mon May 14 1990 11:48 | 8 |
| The implanted micro-chip is for I.D. only, an alternate to
tatooing. You have to put the animal in close proximity to the
read-out device to use it.
I'm interested in a gizmo that has a range of say 1000 feet. Turn
it on, point it outward and start turning around. When it beeps
loudest, it's pointing at kitty-cat. With this, you could sweep the
neighborhood without trespassing, especially re. houses closed up with
owners on vacation, etc. where kitty-cat may be trapped.

| I love to watch shows like "Beyond 2000" and I remember one show
where they featured a new "hide and seek" type of game where one
person had a homing device and the seeker had a detector. Its
certain that the technology exists, now we need some clever person
to adapt it to cats. That person could make some money if it
catches on. Come on you electronic wiz's out there. Here's
a real opportunity.

3582.25 | How is Sneakers and the 'brood' ! | NATASH::ANDERSON | | Mon May 21 1990 16:09 | 16 |
| Bob,
Just wondering how Sneakers is doing? Hope all is well and that is
'relieved' to be home.
How is the new 'brood'...just about ready to leave the nest?
Otis is great! He and Tiff have been sleeping together more
(sounds risque' doesn't it?) and Otis seems to be talking much
more - since he was neutered. Never cries, growls or hisses.
He's a real stud!
Keep in touch...

3582.26 | Doin' great! | USEM::MCQUEENEY | My days are numbered. | Wed May 23 1990 15:01 | 18 |
| Sneakers is great, all clean and healthy again. He had been a bit
put off by the kittens, but now he runs around the house with them
and plays/wrestles with the kids. He can be a little too rough,
sometimes, with the smaller ones (2 runts in this litter), but with
a word of warning from me he backs right off. Nova is doing real
well, too, and seems proud of her crew. Smoke plays Grandma to
the kids, cleaning them and occasionally disciplining them if they
annoy her too much.
The kittens are on hard food now, which surprised me when they started
eating it last week. I came home one day, and one of the runts
was actually IN the food bowl, chowing down. So funny to watch!
If you know of anyone looking for very mellow, friendly,
people-oriented kittens, send me some mail!

3582.27 | Glad to hear Sneakers is okay! | NATASH::ANDERSON | | Wed May 23 1990 15:26 | 25 |
| Bob,
Glad to hear that Sneakers is home and behaving himself. Maybe the
birth of the kits was enough to put his nose out of joint and he
decided to 'run away'....just to get back at yah! :)
There is a woman - in my group - who told me to ask you (well, she
didn't TELL me) if your litter has a long-haired gray/white kitten.
She has met THE O..tiss and loves him. I told her I would ask you and
then let her know. I figure the kittens should be ready to go in
about two weeks, huh?
Are you going to keep any for yourself?
Pictures of Otis and Tiffany are due in today - can't wait to see them.
I will send the good ones to you. Otis is just precious! People
are just flabbergasted when they see him...I mean my kids actually
bring their friends to the house - just to see/watch the things he
does! And...you bring out the camera and he really gets into it.
He's a real ham!
Let me know about the kits'...
