On March 26, my mother had the sad task of putting Sam to sleep. He had just turned 18 years old and his time had finally come. It was difficult for her to do and she hasn't cried so much since my father died 8 years ago. Sam was her link to just about everything and now he was gone. She swore she would "never get another pet... can't go through this again." My mom came up to MA (from NJ) to visit the last weekend in April. Slowly, her mind was changing. She was now saying she was thinking about getting another cat, but it would have to wait till my baby is born (due in 2.5 weeks). Maybe sometime in the Fall she would get a new one. On this past Saturday, I was informed she is now feeding a stray cat. He/she is all black with white paws. It's been hanging around the neighborhood for about 2 weeks now and her neighbors are also feeding it and while my mom was visiting me, had the cat sleep in their garage because it was cold and rainy outside. On Sunday night, the kitty (about 2 years old maybe) slept in my mom's house. She got a box and put some litter it and the cat used it. On Monday, she bought a new litter box and the cat stayed inside again during the night. The cat has obviously been dumped. Another neighbor told her it was hanging around the office park (what used to be an orchard behind my mom's house) for the last 2 months and has only recently ventured into the neighborhood. It's friendly, soft, purrs a lot, and seems to have quite the appetite. Seems my mom and this kitty have adopted each other as if it were destined to happen. Mary

re: .last Mary, that kitty isn't anywhere in the vicinity of Lake Boone in Hudson, MA, is it? My cat Sneakers disappeared Friday night, and he certainly fits the description! All black, with two white rear paws (hence 'Sneakers'). Let me know if it might be him! a worried Bob McQ. | |||||

Re: .1 My mom lives in New Jersey. Sorry it's not your kitty. Good luck in finding him. Re: .2 Karen - thanks, you're right... NJ it is! The adoption seems to be for real.. Mom named the kitty Alex and thinks it's a female but she's not sure. The name Alex can go either way and it seems to fit the kitty. |
