| JJ, I've often thought of volunteering for the Goffstown Rescue League.
I'm still on disability (two back operations in 7 months), but I should
be back to "normal" by June. One of the things I'd like to do is
volunteer.
Can you reply to this note and tell me what you and other volunteers
do? Are you directly involved with the animals at all? Perhaps other
noters have thought of volunteering and would be interested in this
information.
Thanks,
Deb and Benj

Deb,
I myself am not in contact with the animals. About the only
time I'd really get to do that is when we have meetings. And
the last one they had I wasn't able to attend.
The thing they need the most volunteers for is the Bingo games.
Basically they need people to sell the "Lucky 7" tickets. These
cost 50 cents each and the people have the chance to win up to
$200 depending on which game it is. That means you walk around
for a couple hours selling them. This is where we make the most
money. The money taken in from the Bingo games themselves pay
for our rental of the hall, the printing of the bingo "cards" and
the payouts to the winners.
People are also needed to call off the bingos. Meaning, when
someone wins, you take their card and read off the numbers over
a microphone so the caller can confirm it being a good bingo.
We also collect the money from the bingo packets and people
give out the bingo packets as well.
It may sound like a lot but it isn't really. It's kind of fun.
The other volunteers are very nice people as are the board of
directors. And the bingo folks are fun too.
Again, if anyone is interested please contact Michelle at the
number in .0

Ok, it's time for me to start pleading again. Our bingos
for the Humane Society have temporarily stopped. We're
hoping to be moving it to Thursday night and will be held
at the new Spartans hall on E. Hollis St (?) in Nashua.
(Just before the bridge going into Hudson) We're hoping
to be able to start up again on Oct. 18 but we've lost
some volunteers. Since the Spartans hall attracts more
bingo players than our previous place, we obviously need
more volunteers to work the floor.
We had a meeting last night and I did what I said I would
never do and went to look at the cats/kittens and dogs/puppies.
All those adoring faces! I wanted to take every one of them
home with me. But seeing them just made me more determined
that what I'm doing is helping them. Some of the surrounding
towns, because of budges crunches, will be losing their animal
pounds. And they're looking to the Nashua Humane to take over.
This means we need to expand. But it can't be done without
the funds. That's the purpose for the bingos. To raise money
to expand the shelter because of our having to take on other
towns. So PLEASE, PLEASE! If you live in the So. NH area
or northern MA and wouldn't mind donating a few hours each
week to help out with the bingo, please get in touch with
me or call Michelle at the shelter. The number is posted
in .0 We really need your help and so do the babies!
I know we have a ton of kitten announcements in here but
I'm going to list the ones I remember from last night that
are up for adoption.... here goes!
White male 1 yr. old. all white except for tiny spot of
grey on top of his head (kind of like a short haired
Dweebs! without the face of course) Beautiful cat.
Brown tabby/maine coon mix. 6 months old. Looks just like
my Sasha. He will be a big cat. Looked very depressed to
be in there.
Gold/white male (I think).
Tuxedo cat (2)
Sand colored tabby type cat. Female (wanna know the reason her
owners dumped her off? "wants to be outside"!! ;( )
Three littermates: All gray LH, all black LH (these two are mirror
images of each other), white with black blotches MD...and gray
eyes!
*The below are recent drop offs and are not yet ready for
adoption but I'll post them anyway*
There were a couple of calicos. One male that was just an
absolute love. Young, I'm gonna guess about 9 mos - year.
Two momma cats and kittens. Both momma cats were mostly
white with a couple of spashes of orange. One had copper
eyes. Their babies: Three orange/white and one gray tabby
(these tykes are only about three weeks old). Orange Morris-
like kitten, one all white kitten, and I *think* two gray tabbies.
Two LH black kittens. One with double paws. These two were
identical twins. The coloring was more like a really dark
charcoal gray. Absolutely gorgeous.
Tuxedo kitten with white whiskers, black SH (looked like Duke!)
There was one cage with five littermates. Two gray tabbies,
one orange, one calico (I think) and one that had the markings
similar to a lynx point siamese.
And so many others. It was sooooo hard to walk out of there
empty handed.
