| | Oh Celeste, that was wonderful of you to help this poor little baby. I
hope he/she will be okay and you find it a loving home soon. I know
how you feel about the s.o.b. who dropped it off; I felt the same way
with the abandoned ones I've found & kept.

| | Hi Celeste,

Is Dr. Mike the same Dr. Mike from Fallon Animal Clinic. He's my
favorite vet! If it is, I know they'll take very good care of the
little one. They do place strays and abandoned kitties quite
    frequently from the clinic.

| 3504.5 | Maybe the same Dr. Mike !?! | WMOIS::C_BILLINGTON |  | Mon Apr 09 1990 16:14 | 16 |
| | Hi Cin

Well if your Dr. Mike is still at the Fallon Animal Clinic no he's
not the same one. My Dr. Mike is at the Gardner Animal Hospital in
Gardner, Ma. If he's the same Dr. Mike he's a wonderful vet. He helped
us through Jake's last years. He said Jake had the longest cat record
in the hospital and one of the longest he'd ever seen. Some day I'll
tell the story of our 7 million dollar cat, but it's still to painful
to talk about it. Now see I'm teary eyed just with these few words
    about him!

I'm sure between the both of us we will find a deserving home for this
special little kitten. So far no word yet today. If nothing by the time
I get home I will place a call for my piece of mind.

| | Sounds like we have another candidate for "Miracle Kitty".
Celeste you are SOOOOO good to take in that little baby. I
suspect you are like alot of us and once you were aware of the
little tyke you could not have turned your back on it.
You were quite right to keep the kitten separated from your
own cats. The runny eyes most likely indicate an upper respir-
atory track infection. As the vet at Boston Cat hospital told
me about the Weymouth commons cats - It would be a miracle if
they DIDN'T have an upper respiratory track infection.
And there is always the possibility that the little guy is
carrying FLV, FIV or FIP, not to mention ear mites, fleas and
worms. Best to be safe (This is the voice of experience here.....)

Definitely let us know how this little tyke is faring. And
    thanks for caring.
       Nancy DC

| 3504.8 | { The news doesn't sound good to me } | WMOIS::C_BILLINGTON |  | Tue Apr 10 1990 14:31 | 34 |
| |
Well last night when I left work my curiosity got the best of me and I
stopped at the vet's. Dr. Mike took time to see me and give me an
update. It's a boy and could be as old as 3 1\2 months or he was kicked
in the teeth. He's missing a few front teeth and said the blood tests
would tell us more. He de-wormed him, and gave him some of the kitten
shots he needed. Also he's running a temp. We talked about the bill and
agreeded we'd work it out after we knew more. He's really good about
that at least with me. I could see him clearly from where I was
    standing, and he looked content.
The person I needed to see about the stray cat fund does not work and
Mon and to see her on Tues. I had to go out at lunch today and it just
so happens I had to go by the vet's! Needless to stop in. I talked to
Raf and she wanted to know more about the kitten, so I told her what I
could. She asked me if I wanted to see him and of course I said YES!
We went into the back room where the cages are and she opened the cage
door for me. He's deathly afraid of humans, he snifs your hand and goes
to the back of the cage. His left eye is not right, it appears to be
swolen and the pupil is dilated. His belly is very hard and buldgy, and
there were no sign of worms in his stool this morning. She said this
could be a sign of FIP. They took his temp while I was there and it's
higher than it was yesterday. The result from the blood tests will be
in tomorrow and we'll know more. I think they're going to start him on
some kind of antibiotic today. This news doesn't sound good at all.
I'm so glad I followed my heart and rescued him! I feel sooooooooooooo
bad about this whole thing I have all I can do not to cry my eyes out
while writing this update. I just want some answers and then I'll know
what way to go. I sure hope the results will be good news and we can
    start finding him a home.
I'll write when I hear more results.

| | I just received some good news! He's luk negative......... The doc will
call me at home later tonight with more updates. Hopefully this means
we're on our way to feeling better and finding a nice, warm, indoor

| 3504.11 | Waiting dirves me crazy | WMOIS::C_BILLINGTON |  | Wed Apr 11 1990 09:40 | 12 |
| | The vet called last night and said they started him on Trib..... to see
if there's some kind of infection causing the stomach problem. There
were still no worms in the stool. They're going to wait a couple of
days to see if things clear up, if not there going to send a sample to
Tuff's for FIP. The doc's very worried about this. There's no answer on
the eye yet. Can a cat live with FIP? I get so confused with all the
different diseases. I guess all we can do now is wait and hope
everything turns out ok. I'll keep you posted.

| | FIP is a fatal disease, it the cat actually comes down with the
disease. Some cats, when confronted with the virus, can build their
own immunity to it. Just keep your fingers crossed that your baby
will be able to do that. In those cases, the best thing to do is
provide supportive care to any secondary infections. When the titer
comes back, try not to panic if it is high. In the absence of full
symptoms of FIP, the titer may have no significance. (I know that
all this seems very confusing). Cats have been known to show high
titers, and then have them gradually come down, and the cat goes
on to lead a healthy happy life.

I agree about 5 minutes alone with the ????? that left him there alone.

| 3504.14 | { Finally GOOD news! } | WMOIS::C_BILLINGTON |  | Thu Apr 12 1990 15:16 | 28 |
| | I just got off the phone with the vet and he seems to be improving in
leaps and bounds. The fever broke yesterday, no signs of worms, and the
eye is fine. It's just a little bigger than the other probably a birth
defect. He's still on the Trib. and will be for the next few days. The
belly is not as buldgy as before and the vet belives that he was severly
malnutritioned. He's eating, pooping with no problems. Dr Mike said we
could probably start looking for a home for him. I'm so glad the news
was good! This will make it easier to do this again if the situation
    ever arises.
He will be staying at the vet's, however long it takes, until we find him
a home. If anyone wants a Miracle Kitty I have one that needs a loving,
caring, tender and hopefully indoor home. And he will only be released
with a neuter agreement. We will be willing to pay half of the neuter.
Better baby boy and I thank you for your help, care, and concern. It would
have been much harder to get through this time without all of you.

Now phase two begins! To find him a home. When this happens I'll be
    sure to post it here.

Remember he's grey and white, with greish blue eyes. About 3 months old
and very very shy. He has not exhibited any signs of being feral. If
anyone is interested in him you can reach me on mail at
WMOIS::C_BILLINGTON, at dtn 241-3922, or you can call the Gardner
Animal Hospital in Gardner, MA tel. 508-632-7110 and ask for Dr. Mike
    or Rafaela.

the Animal Hospital there. I'll have to tell them to give
him a pet for me or something the next time they're there!

But hopefully he'll have been placed by then!

| | I'm very glad to announce that the better baby boy has a permant home!
He was adopted yesterday and has gone to a very nice indoor only home.
They had to sign an agreement to be neutered. Unfortunately he had to
go with the condition of we think he's 100% but not really sure. I
think he will be any only cat for now, which is what I think he really
needs. I'm really glad he'll have a good home and good health for a
    very a very long time.
