3483.0. "You can't be my brother, you smell too good!" by VAXWRK::DUMAS (Wow, too late, we're there) Tue Apr 03 1990 10:14

Well, Latka had his very first bath this weekend and the house is
still in an uproar. He was so well-behaved ! No claws, no biting,
just a pitiful meeerrrooowww through the whole ordeal .... as his
sister Simka sat at the closed bathroom door, horror-struck, wondering
who was killing the cat on the other side and when would it be her turn.

The trouble came when (clean, blow-dried, brushed and very handsome)
Latka finally emerged - who was this strange cat ??? Simka, who is
inches shorter, pounds lighter, and normally timid (unless food is around)
arched her back, expanded her tail to maximum and hissssssed !
This is the girl who watched her brother disappear into the bathroom
and waited outside the door until it opened. ' What did you do with
Latka ?? This CAN'T be Latka - he SMELLS too good !'

It's been 3 days now, and the hissing continues - whatever was in that
conditioner, it's powerful stuff. Poor Latka is bewildered - he's
brought all the toys and dropped them near Simka, he's tagged her and
waited expectantly for the chase to begin, but no. Simka just sniffs
and hisses.

Denise, Latka the lonesome, and Simka the nearsighted

Denise,

Dare one ask what Latka did to deserve this bath?

One solution would be to send Simka to my house. One look at Orson
and her brother will look *real* good to her.

What a cute story. It reminds me of when I used to take my poodle "Puddles"
to the groomers. He would be so excited and happy when he got home. He would
run into the house and my cat "Elsa" would hiss and try to scratch his eyes out.
He smelled and looked different to her, so she didn't know who he was. Poor
Puddles, he couldn't understand why his sister didn't like him anymore.

One time I gave both of my cats a bath in the same stuff, and when they
were both dried they still didn't know who the other was and they
hissed at each other. Even though they smell different they still expect
there sister or brother to smell the same. I was surprised, but it
didn't last long. Maybe 5 minutes and then they figured out that is
    wasn't a stranger...
