3464.1 | Rub it into their fur.... | ASABET::MCDONOUGH | | Wed Mar 28 1990 11:23 | 9 |
| I've found that the easiest way to get my kids to take their hairball
medicine is to rub it into the fur on their front legs. They give me
"death-wish" looks when I do it, and they shake those front feet
indignantly, but then they clean it off as any clean kitty will do.
One word of caution though...make sure it's rubbed into the fur
fairly evenly and deeply, or you'll be cleaning it off the walls after
the shaking of the paws....

| I also use the Laxatone, and two of my "kids" will fight you
for it. The other two run when they see it coming! Its
the "goopy" that lubes the inside to slide out the hairballs,
so I don't know what you can do about a less goopy type.
The trick I use to giving it to the two who do not care for it...
I squeeze out a ribbon onto my finger, and wipe this into/on
the side of the cat's mouth, smearing it well,onto their lips, per se,
so that they cannot shake it off. They aren't thrilled, but they
lick it off promptly.

| Temperature might have a lot to do with it being so goopy. maybe if you
refregirated it a little it would firm it up. I use Lax Aire from my
vet. Its not real gloppy and Maxine loves it.

3464.4 | cold PETROMALT, please... | FORTSC::WILDE | Ask yourself..am I a happy cow? | Fri Mar 30 1990 13:59 | 7 |
| If you can find it....try PETROMALT brand. I also keep it cold. The team
tolerates it better that way - but all have decided it's just not what they
had in mind....even though Nicholas used to eat it from my finger without
prompting. Now, I have to force feed it by prying open the mouth, rubbing
a chunk off on the tongue and then closing their mouth on it until it
begins to melt. They then glare at me and act like I've given them a
huge chunk of peanut butter - but it gets down.

| Mocha would eat the whole tube of Femalt is I would let him. Eats
it right off your finger. When we first got Ming we did everything
we could think of to get her to take it, ALL made it a very unpleasant
experience. I called her breeder and she said, "Spread it on the
edge of her feeding dish." Sure enough it worked. (Of course I had
to put Mocha outside as he smelled hers and it was like, "Mine,
mine.
