3406.0. "Urgent: Save two cats from the "chair"" by TIGEMS::FORREST () Fri Mar 09 1990 11:52

       Please pass this note on to anyone you know may be interested
    in saving two cats from being put to sleep.

       The following note is from a former co-worker (tag) who no
    longer works for Digital. She lives in a condo and the condo
    recently changed the rules. As such, she has to find a home
    for her two cats within a week or....

       She can be contacted at the phone number listed below.
    You can also send mail to me if you cannot reach her.

       Thanks in advance.

    ===================================================================

    Hi. I am looking for a good home(s) for my two adult cats, either
    individually or together. The stats are as follows:

    I live in Manchester, NH. The number in the evenings or on
    weekends is (603) 633-9211. If you cannot get to Manchester,
    I would be willing to "deliver" them.

    The cats are two six-year old adult females cats, neutered, no front
    claws, excellent dispositions, very docile, no problems. They
    are clean cats and always use the litter box.

    One is a tortoise-shell colored (half-Siamese, half black-Angora),
    the other is a black and white short hair. The tortoise-shell
    one is six pounds, the other is twelve pounds.

    They are indoor cats who sleep or play with each other. They are
    no trouble and good companions.

    Thanks so much for your help.

3406.1No!!!!!! Chair!USCTR2::EVIOLAFri Mar 09 1990 13:5014

    I cannot give a home or recommend one, as I have Strays to place, yet.
    But do recommend to her, to place them in the Humance Societies, not to
    the CHAIR!!!!!! I had to do this, to my parents cat last year, for she
    was not placeable at all....even to the Humane Societies for she was
    not trustworthy and old.

    I still feel so bad!!!!!!!!!!! My parents thought to even keep her in
    their HOme for the Elderly, but could not risk it. Good luck in any
    placement, but may the LAST resort be, a Humane Society.

    Is the Humane Society the same as the Animal Rescue league? Someone
    else in my office mentioned them.

3406.3STOP!.....Read the cat/condo battle note first!BOOVX2::MANDILEFri Mar 09 1990 14:3611
    There is another note not too far back about a cat/condo battle
    that has some good points. If you had your pets BEFORE the
    rule was changed, you shouldn't have to get rid of your cats.
    Also, if they are indoor only cats, than they are considered
    personal property. I urge you to read the other note & replys
    as there may be a way for you to keep your cats. And contact
    a lawyer. The advice is very good. I had to take a kitten
    that I knew was going to be put down to the shelter. If I
    had an option to fight, I would have jumped at it.

3406.5Clawless????? Not good.CGVAX2::LANDRYCloser to the HeartFri Mar 09 1990 14:5811
    Especially since they have no front claws - the chances of a shelter
    putting them down is very good - unless of course you go to a no-kill
    shelter. But even that isn't promising cuz alot of them are turning
    cats away.

    I feel as .-1 feels - try to fight this!

    Good Luck to your friend!

3406.6Humane Societies....USCTR2::EVIOLAFri Mar 09 1990 15:5117
    Yes,,,,,,,,,,reading the ones before me, do try and fight it being
    totally indoor cats. Declawed, is tough, and yes the Humane Societies
    are pretty full. THEY DO NOT PUT THEM TO SLEEP and always ask if you
    do go this route.

    There is also CAT-NIPS kennels is Berlin,MA (yellow pages) in which
    they shelter (CAT ONLY) for people who go on vacation. They will keep
    for $6/per day (an expensive resort, but.....) you kitties and
    advertise them for you. Just trying to help,,,,,,,,,,,,,call and do
    talk to a lawyer. Search she should, for anything before she gives the
    chair, which is not necessary.........

    				Scruffy.......prays for them

3406.7Fight Back!CRUISE::NDCPutiput Scottish Folds - DTN: 297-2313Mon Mar 12 1990 08:089
    I agree about the condo rules. If she owns the condo then she can
    not be forced to give up her cats if they were allowed under the
    previous rules.  It is illegal.

    re: Humane societies - check with each shelter individually. Some
    organizations are no-kill some aren't. Also, kitten season is just
    beginning so the shelters will be full or will be putting alot of
    cats to sleep.

3406.8DON'T GIVE UP THE SHIP!MSBIS1::BAUCAGEMon Mar 12 1990 13:4119
    I am the originator odf 3397 and my heart goes out to you.
    Please don't give up without a fight - grab whatever piece
    of info. or tool you can find to stop these condo %V&*^%#.

    You can call me at 293-5432 or send a message if you need
    support. I know what I am going through and it doesn't
    feel good. It's like asking me to get rid of half my heart.
    No way - not if I can help it. If we continue on giving in
    to these rules imposed by animal haters, we might as well
    forget about fighting for animal causes. Doris Day might
    as well go to sleep instead of fighting Washington to prevent
    animals from being used to test chemicals, etc.

    Condo's are a fairly new commodity, and we are still new on how
    they should be controlled. Please, please, let's not go to
    sleep on this one.

    Hi:

Guys, thanks for all your help. I spoke to a lawyer and he felt that
I should be able to keep two of the cats as I had them before the rules
were made, but that as for now the ball was in the court of the
condo assn. so I have decided to keep all three of them until I hear
further from the assn.

Once again, thanks for your help. Agatha, Amanda and Cobalt and I
thank you.

    That's good news!! IF things get Funky around there remember
    that a temporary fosterhome until things calm down again is
    always an option.
